The casual connections between our political leaders and the corporations are confirmed. Profit and power are all that matter. Now I understand why banks loan money to less developed countries, money that they can never repay. Their economies are destroyed, their lands polluted and more and more people become destitute. The USA forces concessions from their leaders. Leaders that won't fall in line somehow don't live long.
The author seems somewhat hypocritical. He admits that himself as he has become very well off from his activities as an economic hit man but every American should read this book. It is devastating to read to what is done in the name of "helping" other countries. Read this book and learn why other countries hate the USA.
It is particularly chilling seeing the backlash as America is reaping what they have sown.

A fascinating true story of the corrupt governmental and corporate activities in which the United States has participated over the past 50 years. This book opened my eyes to a political underworld that is both exciting and terrifying.

I am familar to the situations which Mr. Perkins discusses. He is very accurate in his presentation and does not exaggerate, in fact, I think he left out some facts to perserve his life.
Why he has not been "taken out" is a mystery to me except that God wants the truth to be revealed? (I am not sure Mr. Perkins is a Christian, but he unmasks many of those who would fool many in this country into believing their motives and messages are pure).

John Perkins. A man driven to speak the truth about what a greedy, imperialist, ruthless bastard the US government is. Ive known all along that our government was sneaky and evil but in reading this, I feel I have more proof. For the most part this reads like a gutsy, page-turning, confessional of a man who has been to the dark side, sold his soul, and somehow lived to tell the tale. Hes like the Ghost Rider of the US underworld, using his demonic powers to fight the very demons he spawns from. Do I think he is honest? Yes. I think writing this book was the only way he could go to sleep at night and NOT see the third world children he helped starve, the rainforests he helped pollute, and the indigenous people he helped murder. Do I think he is the product of his own ego? Absolutely. However, by opening up about his involvement with shady organizations of corporatocracy and exposing them for their malicious intent of world domination, I feel he redeems himself. He has seen and worked on the inside and does have an insiders perspective that no one else has. Interestingly, the day I finished this book is the day Osama Bin Laden has been declared dead. With my newly minted Perkins brain, I am now, more than ever, trying to read between the lines.

This is a hard book to read because the truths it tells are so ugly. It confirms things that I have suspected about behind-the-scenes treachery at the highest levels, and it is true.
