Received this book from a friend who knows the author, ahead of the official release date. At first I was prepared to LOVE this book. It started out with great promise to be not just another typical highland romp. But the last few chapters slipped back into the tried and tired theme of the heroine not listening to others around her and having trust issues. B- read.

Beautiful cover has the promise of a great book, but it was anything but. By-the-numbers and uninvolving. The author could have benefited from a strict editor, as Brisbin seems infatuated with the phrase "once more" and the word "more" in general. The dialogue is stiff and Medieval 101, at times sounding drawn out to increase word count. The overall quality was run of the mill fanfiction with a vast share of the book concerned with groin-tightening and wet lady parts at the expense of any real characterization or plot. There's even womb-prodding! *facepalm* It's the kind of romance that is rightly derided by those who are prejudiced against the genre.
Apparently Brisbin is going to write two books with the hero's two comrades, Brice & Soren. Will quality improve? I haven't ever read this author before, so I have no idea. I hope so.

This book was a 5 star read for me. Granted, I LOVE medieval historical romance, but what intrigued me was getting a glimpse of what life was like in England shortly after the Battle of Hastings. I highly recommend this book!
