I just discovered these books today when I was looking for a Pulitzer award winning book to read for one of my 2014 categories.  The Town, the 3rd book in the trilogy won the Pulitzer in 1951.

Also, I discovered there is a 1978 mini-series staring Elizabeth Montgomery, Hal Holbrook, Jayne Seymour, William H. Macy called The Awakening Land which I believe is the trilogy all in one mini-series. It's roughly 5 hours of youtube viewing (shhhhh).

It was very good although a bit of a soap opera mixed with Little House on the Prairie but earlier in history.

You'll fall in love with Sayward Luckett (Elizabeth Montgomery). Montgomery impressed me with her acting. I highly recommend the mini-series. I don't have the books yet, but I look forward to reading them too.
 

Tome, dear------Volume 3 ain't "The City", it's "The Town".   You're in for a wonderful reading experience.   And viewing experience, too, although I sure wish the dialogue coach hadn't let Hal Holbrook use a couple of bits of questionable grammar in his role as Judge Wheeler, who was a highly educated lawyer from Massachusetts!

Oh, yeah, right. "The Town."  My bad.

not to be confused with The Town and the City by Jack Kerouac. His first novel.

I just read The Sea of Grass by C Richter about two weeks ago. Very good book. I really enjoyed it. I just received a few days ago The Lady by Richter. It may be a while before I can read it though. I have too much other stuff ahead of it.

I was introduced to Richter's writing in junior high with 'The Light in the Forest'. I loved it and went on to read many of his works, including 'The Awakening Land' series. I really liked the miniseries as well, and thought it well done. I think my favorite Richter work, though, is 'The Waters of Kronos'. The story was wonderful, and I think it won the National Book Award back in 1961.

finished recently The Lady by Conrad Richter. Very similar to Sea of Grass. story told by old man from memory when the man was a young boy. Central figure is a strong woman. Tension builds to a climax at the end. I think this is really a long short story. 191 pages in a small sized book.

I'm beginning to be involved with Richter. I just requested Light in the Forest.

I'll have to go look again for a Richter book. My request for The Light in the Forest was rejected.

I just discovered last night that The Sea of Grass was made into a movie. watched it on youtube. Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. Harry Carey and Edgar Buchanon. They changed the ending.

I have yet to read any of Richter's work. My library system, which is usually very well stocked, doesn't have them at any of their branches. On Amazon they are used and they are expensive. I can get a Kindle copy of "The Trees" for $13, but books 2 and 3 are $30 and up. Sometimes as much as $150 dollars. 

I am currently bidding on "The Field" on ebay.

The Sea of Grass is available here for one credit. IMHO it's one of his best.
 

Okay, I am finally reading The Trees. My library has the trilogy in one book. It's purty good so far.
