This is a wonderful book about a doctor who practiced in northern Minnesota. For almost four decades Dr. Roger MacDonald was the only country doctor who tended to those in need in an area larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. He traveled to small towns, remote backwoods, cabins, logging camps and Indian reservations to treat his patients. Despite the terribly harsh weather, he was able to reach many of the sick and this was a time of the late 40s and 50s and cars were very different from the luxurious cars we drive today. Dr. MacDonald would do his best to reach his patients through blizzards, ice storms and flooding. He treated more than just the body, becoming an advisor, confidant, caretaker and friend as he plied the back roads of the north woods. His caring and love for people easily comes through in his stories. I would love to have a doctor like him caring for me!! Great read!
