I didnt bother finishing this book because of the tired trope of small town life trumps big city life at play here. Bethlehem (Beth) Bradshaw wants to save a 100-year-old church building that has fallen into disrepair but prodigal son Jeremy Hightree (Cooper) has other plans, namely, bulldozing it and repurposing it.

Beth does and stays stupid things throughout this book and its a wonder that Jeremy sees her as anything more than a nuisance. At one point, theyre returning home from having burgers with Riley, a foster child in need of guidance. Beth offhandedly remarks about brothers, knowing that Riley is still reeling from the death of his older brother. Beth apologizes to Riley and to his mother, which was nice. Then she runs off to deal with her pain. Excuse me, author? Whose pain? Beth is the idiot who made the comment that offended Riley. We should be concerned with Rileys pain, not Beths.

I am sick to death of reading books with heroines who are dumber than dirt. Read it only if youre really bored.
