Dr. Drew lives in my hometown and I've always had a bit of a crush on him. I remember listening to him on the radio as a 13 year old girl and he's always stuck out in my mind as kind of "the perfect man". He's got it all: looks, intelligence, skill as a doctor, and a sense of compassion for people in pain. Dr. Drew not only explores drug and alcohol addiction in his patients but also how he deals with his own feeling as a "rescuer" type. He reveals a lot about himself and his honesty is really disarming and refreshing. Anyone who works in a helping capacity (social workers, doctors, nurses, etc.) will relate to Dr. Drew's struggle to accept his limitations as a healer. Anyone who is dealing with addiction or knows someone who is will find his insights on how and why people become addicted to be illuminating.
Very interesting book. If you are interested in how the drug rehab industry works, this book is for you.
Very interesting read. I would recommend it to anyone strugging with addiction or curious about these issues.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author, Drew Pinsky, who used to talk on the radio show Lovelines, has done some impressive work with helping educate people on addiction. Even if you have never struggled with addiction, or not even know someone who did, this book will help you better understand why some people become addicted to drugs.
