I liked this book alot. I thought that the writing was witty. Quite a few times I would start laughing and my dog would perk her ears up and give me that look like "what are you doing?"
Having been through a break-up (not a divorce, but a long-term relationship break-up) I could relate to just about everything that she was saying. And for me being able to relate to the characters is one of my must-have features for a book to be enjoyable. Also being that it was a book about knitting, I knew all of the struggles that she was going through. Not sleeping because you just want to finish one more row (that inevitably turns in to 20 or 50)!
I think that this is a good pick-me up book. If you're down it can make you laugh, which is always a good thing to me. While reading I found myself laughing not so much because she was going through it, but because I have gone through the same things.
I would recommend this book to anyone going through a tough break-up, a knitter, or just someone looking for something amusing to read.

Funny, but not as funny as her blog. Her "voice" is evident in the writing, but it just seems that maybe it was edited by someone who didn't really "get" Laurie's quirkiness. There are some items that I remember reading on the blog, but there are some new, entirely entertaining tales of craziness in the book. Most of Laurie's knitting patterns are on the website already, but there are patterns from Annie Modesitt and Drew Emborsky, too. There is an uber-cute "devil" baby blanket pattern.

Saw this book at Borders and decided to pick it up. I'm SO glad I did!!! It is SO Funny! I am really enjoying it and can relate to all the knitting references as well as her enthusiasm for knitting especially at the beginning. Looking forward to trying out some of the knitting patterns included in the book. HIGHLY Recommended for a fun, knitting-related read. =)

I picked this up on a complete whim. I do not knit. I am in my mid-twenties; never been divorced. I have never owned a cat, and I don't drink. But, for some reason this book was appealing to me. I had read some reviews and it seemed like a nice, light book to read.
Well, It wasn't as funny as I had expected, based on the reviews I'd read. Perhaps I'm just not in the target demographic. However, it was a quick read and kept my interest for most of the book. I've since checked out the author's blog, and it is indeed very funny. I just wish the book was as funny as promised (or as funny as the blog).

Funny story, not all about kniting, but how knitting saved her from demise. Knitting patterns in the back. A 30-something's book. A little too young in story for me.

I enjoyed this book! I have been a sporadic reader of Laurie "Crazy Aunt Purl"'s blog, but this book gave me a lot of insight into where Laurie is coming from in her blog.
You definitely don't have to be a knitter to enjoy this book, but Laurie's infectious enthusiasm about knitting might make a knitter out of you anyway! I would say that this book is more a chronicle of Laurie's journey in adjusting to her divorce than a story about her discovering knitting. That said, she does include about 20 cute patterns, but most of her original patterns are also available on her blog.

"Crazy Aunt Purl.s" knitting blog is a laugh-out-loud chronicle of a recently divorced 30-something in Los Angeles. This book zeroes in on the divorce and her recovery from it. While amusing -- and full of hope for those who are going through similar rough patches -- it doesn't have the hysterical insanity of the blog.

Great read! Without bitterness, author Laurie Perry tells her story of lost love and reinventing her life. Ms. Perry humor is witty, intelligent and had me laughing out loud. Can't wait to read about the next phase in Aunt Purl's life!

This is a really fun read for knitters (and non-knitters). Laurie's online presence on her blog and elsewhere led me to her book, and it's a great little memoir of a painful period of her life, and how she came out if it. Her sense of humor allows to handle divorce in a sensitive but candid way, making you laugh along the way.
Also has some basic knitting patterns for some fun projects - not challenging for advanced knitters, but good, quick projects.

Even though I don't knit, I enjoyed this book. The other reviewers are right, it is not as funny or as touching as her blog, but you can definitely tell some of the personality was edited out by someone. But, all in all a good, fast read about a life changing experience. I highly recommend!

Cute book, an easy read. She makes some good observations on evolving from 1/2 a couple divorcee to complete person divorcee. I wish there had been more knitting but the book was entertaining.

While not a divorcee myself, I have gone through break ups and my fair share of heartache. Laurie Perry is delightfully relate-able and as a knitter myself I found my love of the fiber arts renewed and I still think of this book many many months after reading it and laugh.
Truly an easy read, but a treat for knitters and/or the recently divorced.
