The first in the series, and a very good read. It's fast, the characters are colorful and even though I'm not into needlepoint crafts, it's a fascinating way to learn about it. I'm looking forward to reading others in this series.

Enjoyable read although, a bit slow moving. I do recommend it for someone who likes needle arts such as knitting and needlepoint. I enjoy those things and I feel it will be more a satisfying read to someone who knows about those things than someone who does not. But don't take my word for it! =D

I'm a fan on Monica Ferris, so I'll even read her books about needlepoint (which I couldn't care less about). She's a wonderful storyteller and it's fun to learn about upper Minnesota, where this takes place.

I think I have had most of the books in this series for quite awhile, but just finally got around to reading the first one. What a great series! This, for me, was one of those books that you automatically feel cozy with after the first two pages and just know you are going to like. The characters are all so interesting. While I was somewhat surprised to find out who done it, I have to say I kept flipping back and forth between likely suspects for the whole book. Very glad I have a whole bunch of them to go through!
Very enjoyable. Could not put it down and it kept my attention till the end. Will read more of this series.

I decided to try this series when I discovered that Monica Ferris and Margaret Frazer (one of my favorites) are the same author, Mary Monica Pulver. Betsy Devonshire, in the middle of a mid-life crisis, has been invited by her sister Margot Bergelund for an extended stay at her home in Excelsior, Minnesota. She helps Margot run her needlecraft shop, Crewel World. But when Margot is found dead, she believes it to be deliberate instead of a burglary gone wrong, and is determined to find out the truth. The story exhibits the author's skill with character development; though it is not as engaging as her medieval mystery series, it's still enough for me to want to read more.
My first book by this author. I really don't think I'll try any of her other books. Took over half the book before I was really interested.
Very interesting book
The first round in an interesting mystery series. One is guessing along with her as to the resolution of the crime. Good read.
It took me a while to get into this one. The first 70 pages or so were very slow going, but once the murder happened and the investigation began the pace picked up and it became quite interesting. I liked the setting and the information about the various needlework techniques. I'll be giving the others in the series a try for sure. This book is the first in the series.

Nice little mystery that kept me guessing until the end. If you like mysteries, as well as needlework, this is the series for you!
This is a mystery series based on a needlework store. The book is filled with fun characters - people I'd like to know. And I'd also like to linger and go through the merchandise! Very well writte; almost in the English style of "cosy mysteries". Recommend it to mystery lovers, and to needlework fanatics!

Wonderful cozy--the first in a series that was new to me. I was quite surprised that the person I thought would be the main character of the series was actually the murder victim instead. I'm quite looking forward to collecting the others.

I adored this book and think anyone who likes any sort of needlework or sewing would LOVE this too! It is what is called "a cozy mystery" as there is no gore or violent, graphic language. I loved it!

A good read!
Betsy comes to visit her sister for a few days and ends up learning to knit with ribbon and uncovers a murder.
This is the first book of a series. I found this book to be more sophisticated in relationship to another needlecraft series. The thought process to solving the crime was in depth and I very much liked the ending. Sometimes a little deception to catch the murderer adds meaning to getting caught.
This is the first in the "needlecraft mystery" series and sets things up well. Very believable characters and situations. Great reading!

first book I have read by Ferris...was slow getting started...not sure I was going to like it...the writing is a bit different from what I'm used to...but really enjoyed the story once I sat down with it...interesting twists of plot kept me glued till the end...had the suspect nailed before the last chapter...but the ending was a nice touch...will definitely try book two of this series!
