Elizabeth Peters's first Amelia Peabody mystery is fun, humorous, and romantic without being sappy. I have re-read this many times and still get a kick out of it. The entire series is excellent, although I prefer the early/younger days of Amelia and Emerson to the later, more mature books.

I first read The Golden One, which my husband purchased for me. I liked it, so I wanted to read the series in sequence. It is a very fun series. If you like British fiction from this era, I think you will like this series. Lots of humor, plus an interesting perspective on Egypt in the late 1800s and early 1900s. A great read.
