maybe it's just me, but I didn't like this one as much as other LMR books. I can't really explain it, there wasn't one specific thing I didn't like, but it felt like there was something missing.
I loved the hero (and the other future heroes that were intro'd ) and the heroine who were both typical lmr characters. The plot was for the most part run of the mill... h meets heroine, falls for h immediately, seduces her, then has to protect her from big bad, so nothing unusual occurred... But still it feels like it's lacking something that I can't seem to pinpoint.
Then again its' rating is pretty high, so like I said, maybe it's just me. Either way if your a regular LMR fan, you'll enjoy this fast read!

Good read with an action based plot. An enjoyable read-once and I'm looking for the sequel so it's a solid 4 star read.
The setting is San Diego [one of my favorite places] but other than the occasional comment about the sea and listening to the waves on the balcony nothing is particularly pertinent to the city.
The hero is Sam Reston, an ex-SEAL, now a very successful security consultant. He's working undercover on the night shift at the docks at the moment so when he swings by his office he's dirty, unwashed, and looking at least nearly as dangerous as he is. So of course he meets the heroine; Nicole Pearce, dainty, cultured, wearing haute couture and now renting the office across from his. He falls instantly into obsession, she hopes the scary thug is only a temporary employee of the company across the hall...
Some time later he rescues her from being locked out of her office and 'charges' her a date for dinner. Since he did rescue her and he has cleaned up his act a little, she agrees. He picks her up at her home and discovers her father is very ill. He passes the first hurdle by dealing with it with grace and treating her father with dignity. During dinner she realizes she is actually very attracted to him so she gives him The Talk: Her father is dying, she's trying to get her translation business up and running but is barely covering Dad's medical bills - she simply has no time to have a relationship. He listens politely, informs her he admires her caring and he isn't scared off. Since there's a nurse with her father she goes for it. 25 pages of Energizer bunny sex ensue...
Meanwhile there's a terrorist plot against the US discovered by a minor French civil servant who slips the warning into the middle of a file that he is sending to Nicole's office to be translated - right before he's killed by the terrorists. Now there's a hit out on Nicole and an order to get the file back at any cost.
The plot continues with multiple kidnappings, assaults, attempted murders, and, of course, rescues in the nick of time, and [equally of course] more Energizer bunny sex.

This book was very good because it was: 1) written by Lisa Marie Rice who is one of my favorites; 2) that the hero Sam was completely besotted with Nicole; 3) the author gave me more than just a peek into Sam's thoughts and feelings; and 4) the sex was hot and heavy, which is standard for Rice and one of the main reasons why she's one of my favorites. On the other hand, there were some points about the story that I didn't like, which made it fall short of being a great story: 1) I didn't really feel that Nicole was uber crazy about Sam like he was about her; 2) the terrorism plot line, although interesting, isn't my first pick for a romance; and 3) Nicole's reaction to the ending crisis wasn't realistic. She really should have been a hysterical mess. Instead, she was too cool, saying something stupid like, "What took you so long?" Regardless, Rice is still an automatic addition to my wishlist. 4 stars.
I thought the actual storyline was good. I liked the tough alpha male, Sam, and you could tell he was really enamoured with Nicole from day one but I didn't actually feel HER connection to him as much as I would have liked.
I enjoyed Sam's interaction with his long time friends, Mike and Harry. Men can act like such little boys sometimes. LOL

Just ok for me. I usually like her books but I didnt feel there was a much of a storyline between the characters in fact for much of the book they are apart. Not a keeper for me.
Thanks Cosmo for a hot intro!
A very good plot. This book can get a little "steamy" but all together a great read. The language used can be a bit harsh at times as well.
I liked this book. Didnt love it. There was sooooo much inner dialogue at times. It seemed to make the story drag a bit in certain parts. I am very intrigued with the two other brothers though, so im going to continue with the series. Im hoping the next one's better.
Very intense emotional story about Sam Reston, and ex-Navy SEAL and Nicole Pearce, an ambassador's daughter trying to maintain life with a dying father and a new company. The story remained intriguing throughout, paired with very passionate scenes between the H/h. If you like Shannon McKenna stories as I do, you will love this story. I can't wait to find more from Rice...I think she has just moved to a top writing favorite for me.

Lisa Marie Rice has done it again. A great book to a new series ... has it all ... romance ... action ... suspense. I give it 5 stars.
The basic storyline of the book is very good. However this author spends so much time describing im skipping pages just to follow the actual action of the book.
