I enjoyed this book far more than I thought I would! Deborah Smith does her usual excellent job building her characters, and they are far more likeable than the book description suggests. It's a wonderful book about coming home, and about who and what really matter. If you haven't read Smith's books before, be prepared for an emotional ride.

This is one of those books that I call women's fiction. Cathryn Deen, the world's most beautiful woman, was in front of the cameras since she was a toddler and suddenly she's a scarred mess and hidden away from the world. Of course, there also has to be the tortured male who's living like a hermit in the backwoods of North Carolina. After all, what kind of romance could it possibly be without a special hero for the terrified heroine?
Throw in a couple of lesbians, a nasty ex-sister-in-law (to maintain the torture), a grandmotherly type to pull everyone up by their bootstraps, a couple of orphaned girls, a slew of orphaned/handicapped pets and don't forget to toss in a lot of religious psychobabble to sweeten the pot. Now you have a heartbreaker guaranteed to keep the tears flowing.
