Sandra Brown does it again! Enticed me into 470 pages of carefully constructed characters dealing with a nicely nutso sociopathic villain. Characters were interesting and engaging, well defined and mysterious enough. A secret here and there that I couldn't quite guess. Yummy suspence and hot attraction.

Edge of your seat thriller. A contract killer is on trial and Dr. Rennie Newton is on jury and delivers a verdict of not guilty....and discovers she has a new admirer. Then one of her rivals is brutally murdered and the killer, Lazada's shadow looms over the case but Rennie becomes the prime suspect, while Lazada stalks her and grows more obsessed with having her. Lots of twists and turns in this thriller.

This is a bit of a spooky story about a woman on a jury for a contract killer, who once they find him 'not guilty' finds that he has become her new admirer. Don't read alone at night!

OOOHHH, this one grabbed me. Though a fairly predictable plot (what is there left that is original?), the story kept my interest and I buzzed right through this one.

A good book. It seemed that it took forever for the hero and heroine to get together. But the premise of the story and how it's played out is very good.

"Sandra Brown is an author I read for escapism. She writes love stories and lately has action-packed storylines to go with her love stories and she makes them work.
I could almost envision Wick...very wicked yet sexy character who has flaws but has morals and wants the girl.
The sexy yet controlled surgeon who gets to be a heroine and needs a little rescuing herself.
The villian whom they must outsmart was generically drawn but he is not the main character of the love story so that is forgiven.
Decent ending that I did not see coming that tied everything together.
I will always purchase Sandra Brown's novels because she never disappoints." amazon review

Dr. Rennie Newton's life turns upside down after serving as foreman on a jury during a murder trial. Evidence against the defendant, Ricky Lozada, is circumstantial and he is soon found not guilty. As Rennie gets back into her usual routine, she finds Lozada is sending her flowers and calling her at home. When a co-worker is murdered at the hospital, evidence points at Lozada. Wick Threadgill tried to get the goods on Lozada a couple of years ago when his brother was murdered. On leave from the Fort Worth Police Department, Wick is asked to keep an eye on Rennie who the police believe may be Lozada's girlfriend. Wick disagrees and thinks Rennie might be the next victim.

I've been working my way through Sandra Brown's backlist with mixed results. Many times I have a hard time liking the heroines in her books. I'm happy to say I liked this heroine. Rennie is living the quiet life, working as a surgeon and saving lives. She hasn't had a relationship in a long time and has her reasons for it. Rennie is terrified when she starts receiving messages from Lozada saying "I have a crush on you". The police have questioned her in her co-workers murder and seem to be looking at her as a possible suspect. She doesn't know who she can trust. Wick has his reasons for going after Lozada. He wants to protect Rennie but she wants nothing to do with him. I liked him and enjoyed the romance between him and Rennie.

This book has a good balance of romance and suspense. The villain is truly creepy. I had a hard time guessing what he was going to do next. My rating: 4 Stars.

This was a great read. Dr. Rennie Newton's structured, organized life turns to chaos when she serves as the jury foreman on a trial for a hired killer. After the jury acquits him for "reasonable doubt", she finds the killer has a "crush" on her. She soon finds her privacy invaded by both the "killer" and a renegade police officer.

I recently discovered this author, I really didn't think I was going to like her because I knew she used to write a lot of romance novels. But thought I would give her a try, I was amazed at how great of an author is woman is. This book will keep you turning pages until the very end! Little romance thown in with a whole lot of mystery!

OBSESSION CAN BE DEADLY
When Dr. Rennie Newton is summoned to jury duty, little does she realise that her compulsion to return a not guilty verdict in the trial of notorious killer, Ricky Lozada, might prove the most regrettable decision of her life...
But when a rival colleague is brutally slain and Rennie herself is cast as prime suspect, she begins to understand that Lozada's menacing shadow might be looming over every aspect of her life. As the stakes continue to rise, Rennie forges an uneasy alliance with embittered detective, Wick Threadgill - a man with vengeance on his mind and a point to prove - but what they both fail to grasp is that when this killer strikes, they won't see him coming...

Though Sandra Brown's earlier works are often harlequin romances, her writing has really matured in The Crush. When I read it I couldn't put it down. Brown has learned how to spin a web of intrigue that is believable and all the more unnerving because is has a ring of truth. Read this and let me know what you think!

When Dr. Rennie Newton is summoned to jury duty, she brings to the courtroom the same level of competence that she displays in the operating room. Her commitment to precision compels her to deliver a not guilty verdict in the murder case against notorious contract killer Ricky Lozada.

It will be the most regrettable decision in her life...because Rennie's trial with Lozada doesn't end with his acquittal.

Her carefully structured life begins to crumble when a rival colleague is brutally slain. Lozada's menacing shadow looms over the murder, but it's Rennie the investigators focus on as a prime suspect. The privacy she has cultivated and protected at all costs is violated by the police as well as Lozada. And when he begins an earnest courtship, it becomes terrifyingly clear that he is obsessed with having her.

Wick Threadgill is a detective on indefinite leave from the Fort Worth PD, who has his own, personal agenda for the contract killer. Temperamental, bitter, and driven by loyalty and love, Wick is determined to destroy Lozada.

In order to defeat Lozada -- and save their lives -- Rennie and Wick form an uneasy alliance. Mistrustful of each other, they know only one thing with absolute certainty, when this killer strikes, they won't see it coming.

The Crush will take you on a tortuous path through a twisted sociopath's eerie obsession, a haunted man fragile hopes for redemption, and a woman's heart as she struggles to face the greatest fear -- to open herself to love.
