This book is GREAT. I love the Merlin series, of which this is the first volume. When I first read it I didn't get to sleep until 3 in the morning (and this was during a time when I usually went to bed at 7:00) because I was so wrapped up in the book.

First book in Merlin series. The entire series is excellent.

My favorite book of the series and the first of what is, in many peoples' opinions, the definitive Arthurian cycle.

This book starts with Merlin as a child. Since I've always found Merlin far more interesting than Arthur, this immediately sucked me in. Stewart always writes wonderful books and her long history as a best selling novelist is evident in the finely crafted story with its wonderful details and settings and complex characters.

A fine first book to the best series ever written about Arthurian times.

I enjoyed this book enough, but I felt it lacked emotion and feeling. It was a great story and the author did a fantastic job with the plot, but I felt so detached from the characters and the passion that was non-existent throughout. I am glad to have read this novel but I don't think I will be reading the rest of this particular series.

This is a famous book with a very interesting premise---the thought that the author can resurrect an era that is more lgend than reality.
