This isn't a book exactly. It's a hardbound blog, desperately in need of editing. James buries his arguments beneath grotesquely indulgent asides that flaunt an impressive gift for belaboring the self-evident. Even so, I'm recommending 'Cultural Amnesia' because it offers so many intriguing recommendations itself. Ignore James's arch mannerisms and jot down the names of the neglected writers he discusses. They are undeniably modern figures who deserve wider recognition.
