In recent years, thousands of Catholics, and non-Christians alike, have visited Ars, which lies just 35 kilometers away from Lyons, and seen the old church with the saint's confessional in which he spent anything up to eighteen hours a day, and the priest's house with its simple room where he died on August 4, 1859.
