Second in the riveting Retrievers series, advances both the dangerous world of magicians, "nulls", and creatures of myth while also developing the romance between the leads. A good read.
Wren snd Sergei are off to Italy in search of a missing artifact, without any information other that the fact that it's very old, very dangerous, and everyone who gets too close to it disappears. Still, when compared to what's going on at home, maybe disappearing wouldn't be so bad...
As if!

how can you not like characters named Wren and Sergei?
Great book!
Wren and Sergei give in to their passion in a very poignant scene.
They are being used by the Silent, one of the groups that wish to control magic of all types. They are sent to Italy to retrieve a manuscript, but tell them nothing about the job. Wren realizes that the item is mage created and could be dangerous.
Upon returning to NYC, Wren finds her home bugged probably by the council. Also, all the fatae in NYC are angry at the lonejacks and humans. All too coincidental with the manuscript also there.
The ending is sad and nerve wracking.
Hard to put down.
