When I reached page 3 I was hooked! A very impressive and totally unexpected type of novel. Part adventure, part well-written literature, part mystery - definitely not your usual story. Very entertaining, and it stays with you for a while. Time very well spent!

Lewis Burke, a New York salesman, is one of the passengers aboard an airliner that crash lands in the jungles of the Congo and is taken over by Congolese rebels. In a desperate moment he chooses escape over being held hostage and flees into dense jungle with only the clothes on his back. Thus begins a two-sided story, one a riveting adventure of survival in equatorial Africa, the other a frustrating struggle by his wife, Helen, to find him in the confusion of African politics and culture and not give in to her growing despair. Beautifully written, The Curve of the World, is a gripping story of loss, love, self-discovery and healing.

Easy to listen to and held my interest. Did not realize I had ordered the abridged version, but I imagine the parts taken out were more depth of the trouble in their marriage so it was okay. I really liked listening to the sections on his survival during his ordeal.
I was so on the seat of my pants wondering what was going to happen and then the book just ends!! No finding out what they say to each other, nothing. I wanted a little more closure.
