If you like a character quirky enough to see her dead ex-husbands ghost through-out the story, Ive got a book for you!

Because the plot keeps moving, it is hard to settle on the fact that talking with ones dead ex-husband is not the norm. It was only after I finished the story that I reasoned that this book was a wee bit off-kilter. You have to love a character that has the nerve to call herself Mojo Sheepshanks!

You know you have entered another universe when Mojo wakes up and finds the ghost of her philandering, dead ex-husband in bed with her! Just so she will not toss him out, Nick brings her a gift the ghost of her dead cat killed by her half-brother when Mojo was four years of age.

What does this have to do with the price of beans, you ask? Miller uses the ghosts to slowly unravel the tragic story of how Mojo became an orphan at 5 and how this affects her current life.

Things are not as they seem (yep, were back in that other universe), but I didnt really care because the story raced ahead at warp speed. I knew I was in the twilight zone when Nick announced he would help Mojo with the emerging problems so he could board the last train for heaven.

I have never read a paranormal suspense romance before and doubted I would again. But, hey, I was a sucker and picked up book #2! That review will come soon; watch for it in the twilight zone.

Mojo Sheepshanks Series:
1. Deadly Gamble (2006)
2. Deadly Deceptions (2008)

This is a re-read for me. I first read this book about 5 or 6 years ago, along with Book 2 in the series.

Mojo Sheepshanks is quite a character. Her backstory is most interesting .. she survived a trauma when she was very young and was abducted by her babysitter. Mojo named herself. She also has a gift of sorts ... she sees her dead ex-husband and Chester, the cat, who died over 20 years ago.

She lives above a bar, and files medical claims to pay the bills. Mojo really has a thing for Tucker .. a cop ... but he comes with baggage in the form of a jealous ex-wife and 2 children.

In this first book, it seems like she's made an enemy here and there. Someone tries to poison her, she's receiving death threats, and her half brother has found her. He's been in a psychiatric facility for many years because he murdered their parents. Now it seems he wants Mojo dead, too.

It's a bit of paranormal, a bit of romance, a bit of mystery and suspense. The characters are fun and I love how she relates to her two "sisters of the heart". Tucker is a good guy ..trying to keep his life departmentalized. The secondary characters are stand-out good. The whole book is actually delightful.

Looking forward to reading (again) Book 2 .... DEADLY DECEPTIONS.
