Excellent story written as to make one think of Catherine Cookson's novels....With the difference being this takes place in Southern England where Cookson's are of the North of England....

The summer concert in St. Petroc, Devon was never intended to be a life shattering event, yet for 14 year old Roxanne Hawkins, one of the local farmer's daughters, it is the evening of a life time. Entranced by the lights, the magic and the greasepaint, she suddenly realizes that she wants to become a part of this fascinating world...

This novel follows Roxanne thru the next 10 years of her life from staring on stage in London's music halls to the events that lead her to what life has in store for her.....

I love this author and enjoy most of her books but this book has so far been my favorite. I discovered this author while on vacation in the UK and enjoy her character studies immensely. I look for her books whenever I am in a book store and have read many. This book is not for the likes of those who want a happy ending. Consider one of her others for that.

A little slow starting, but once it gained momentum, it was a quick and engaging read. My 1st by this author, and I will read others.
