Good read. This series is not just about the primary characters in each book but incorporates all the residence of the town of Buffalo Valley. This is the first of the Dakota Trilogy. The remaining books are 'Dakota Home' & 'Always Dakota'. If you are a fan of Ms. Macomber's Cedar Cove series you will especially enjoy this trilogy.

Just got done reading the first in the series of 4. Very well wrote. I love Debbie Macombers books. Very clean read. Can't wait to start on the nest one Dakota Home, then Always Dakota and the last one Buffalo Valley. I have all of them to read but Buffalo Valley which is on my wish list.

Wonderful read! First book in the series.
What a nice story. Someone young with ideas comes to an old fashion farming town. She bring with her a little secret of her own. This town and it's people will grow on you and you will forward to reading the next chapter.

Trapped in a romance that is going nowhere,Lyndsay and her friend take a 2 week vacation. They visit Buffalo Valley, North Dakota, where Lyndsay's grandparents lived. She takes a teaching position for a year. Both she and the town are changed in that year. Can't wait to start the next book of the series!

I really enjoyed this book. So much so that I quickly got the other two books in the trilogy and read them too. I hated the fact that there are no more books in this series and can't enjoy the characters in this town.

The "Dakota Born" book (and whole series) are one of my favorites of Debbie Macomber's. (And that says a lot, because I'm a big fan of most of her writing.)
In "Dakota Born," a single schoolteacher ("city girl" and from the deep South, no less) moves into a failing western town and one-room school, and was not especially welcomed by the discouraged town folk or the single rancher whom she was drawn to.
But because of her dedication to her tiny school, and her way of inspiring both her high school students and the local townspeople with her vivaciousness and her creative ideas, the town begins to perk up again, the community takes pride in their town once more, and the economy picks up.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of town secrets, faltering relationships and teenage angst to keep us involved in the story. I became so invested in Macomber's characters that it was a "hard-to-put-down-er!" and I was thrilled that it was part of a 4-part series, so the storyline continues!

Excellent excellent read
This was a nice cabin read, or bubble bath read. It's not going to help you solve any of your problems, but it will give you a little glimpse into a world other than your own. It was a window into a small town, the people that lived there, and their lives. I am a pretty picky reader, and while it wasn't "great", it was good enough that I requested the second book in the series.
Enjoyable, easy read...about a dying small town in ND, brought back to life by a new teacher from out of state but whose roots are in ND.

A newcomer to Buffalo Valley, ND is shocked to see how run down the town is but decides to stay and accepts the position of a teacher. This is a heart-warming story of hope, love and a new beginning...

Never met a Macomber I didn't love
The story line is predictable but very enjoyable. I liked the slow pace of life in the stories.

I like Debbie's book but I think I enjoyed this book more then any others. I like how it had the main characters but also had interactions with other people in the town. Almost finished with book # 2 as well and I can't wait to dive into # 3
