'Damien' is the best of the Nightwalker books. I enjoyed 'Jacob', was disappointed in 'Gideon', couldn't read 'Elijah,' but LOVED 'Damien'.
Jacquelyn Frank continues to build her unique world of demons, druids, vampires, lycans, mistrals and shadowdwellers. We learn more of their culture and histories as the Nightwalkers gain lost knowledge of their dependence on one another. The story might be difficult to understand without reading at least the first two books.
Damien, the Vampire Prince, rescues Syreena, the princess of the Lycans from the rogue demon Ruth. They discover their attraction to one another in the process. Many centuries old, Damien and most vampires, struggle with apathy...they've seen and done everything. But Syreena stirs new feelings in Damien and he pursues her as his mate. Syreena was raised in isolation and finds it difficult to balance the duty to the lycans with her feelings for Damien; he must convince her of the rightness of their relationship.
Damien is a vampire who knows what he wants and goes after it, although he does make some mistakes along the way. Syreena is strong but not domineering. Ms. Frank does a fantastic job of writing so that the reader can actually feel the intensity of Damien and Syreena's relationship. I experienced many splendid chills down by back while reading this book.

I was slightly disappointed in this book. Overall the book was good but compared to the others in this series, it lacked passion, suspense, excitement, and a good story line. I was even disappointed in the female character. She's getting bossed around by a lady that lives with her man and she doesn't even really stand her ground.

Difficult to follow...maybe it was me.

This is the latest in the series that I have read. Each book can stand on it own. They tie together, but each has a different concept for the Nightwalkers. I am really enjoying this series. I can not wait for Noah to come out.
Totally Hot, your going to fall in love with a deamon!
I loved this series and this book was one of my favorites.
Damien is the vampire king and a friend to the demon king. He does not expect that a lyconthrope mean so much more to his existance, and to the vampire world.
My least favorite of Frank's Nightwalkers series. I thoroughly enjoyed Jaz, but Damien and his petulant childish Syreena was a poor story, at least in comparison to the other Nightwalkers stories. I was looking forward to an excellent read on Damien as I thoroughly enjoyed his character within the other novels. It was a huge let down. I've already read book 5 so I know Frank returns to her wonderful writing style.
This fourth book in the series is of the Vampire Prince and the shapeshifter Princess. He is perhaps 850 years older but still curious enough as a royal to seek out knowledge including that of the newly discovered Library of the Nightwalkers. He is also strong enough to join the others for their fight against Ruth, something many Vampires are not interested in doing. This is a very satisfying addition to the Nightwalker series.
I was pretty leery about this book compared to Jacob, Gideon, and Elijah....the prologue seemed more like cliched vampires than likes books 1-3. i was immediately put off by it. the vampires are so different from the demons and lycanthropes that it initially didn't appeal to. the characters were harder to trust...maybe that makes some "tension" but i didn't like it much. eventually the book became more like 1-3, and so it won me back over. i was disappointed that Damien and Syreena didn't have the same imprinted characteristics as the other couples do. but i am glad that the main storyline is still continuing and i am looking forward to reading Noah, which, i think is the last in the series. i'm anxious to find out what happens to ruth. Syreena is an interesting character. I really think it is ingenious how the author works in the explanations of mermaids, vampire transformations, etc. And I like that she introduces the main characters for the later books in the earlier books. It gives the series a cohesive feel. Romance scenes...like Gideon, the book is not filled with them, but what was there was definitely good. So, while I didn't like this book as much as Elijah and Jacob, I did find it entertaining overall, and still gave it 4.5 stars. Enjoy!
Ms. Frank never disappoints! Her writing is so precise and vivid you can always imagine what every scene is like! Damien's story is no different in this perspective. The ending is a tease, leaving the reader slightly confused and wanting more. Wonderful book overall!
I wish I could evaluate Damien on two levels -- on its portion of the series' overarching storyline, and on its secondary romantic conflict. The first part of the book is stellar -- I love the way Frank picks up the threads left behind in past books of the series and weaves them effortlessly into each new story. It's masterful, and one of the most successful executions of multi-book plot development of any urban fantasy series I've read. In Damien, we're introduced to a new race of Nightwalker, and unravel new layers of politics, protocol and culture with each page of the book. I loved this addition to Frank's world, and applaud the way the author always manages to keep things fresh and interesting, even four books into a series.
That said, I was much less enthusiastic about Damien himself, and his romantic partner, Syreena. Although I liked Damien's backstory and his relationships with his compatriots and friends, I couldn't get into him as a romantic lead. Syreena was equally puzzling to me -- I just didn't like her much. Her history didn't appeal to me, and I didn't feel a connection with her as an individual, or as part of the book's spotlight couple.
I liked learning more about the Mistrals -- very cool addition to the story and the Nightwalker community -- and learning more about the new babies' roles in the future of the Nightwalker prophecies. Unfortunately, this is not a book I'll reread on its own merit. The canon pairing just wasn't that strong, in my opinion. I am, however, very much looking forward to reading Noah.

Had mixed feelings about this book. It was decent with interesting world like the rest of series, but wasn't great and there was some things that just didn't sit right.
Great book, great story plot..Have read all her books.Keeps you involved from the first chapter..Would read this book again and plan to.. A keeper for sure.
Was a good read not as good as her other books, but still interesting enough to keep me reading.
This is a deeply romantic and entertaining tale by Jacquelyn Frank, and in my opinion is second only to Noah as her best work.
Damien is the prince of the vampires, a race of cold and cunning immortals. Syreena is a princess of the Lycanthropes, a uniquely gifted shape-shifter, who falls in love with Damien after he rescues her from the evil Demon magic-user Ruth.Their romance is complicated by the tenuous peace between their races, and the fact that vampires are not meant to fall in love.
The characters are both strong and intriguing. They are determined and self-aware. The romance between them is truly beautiful. It is a dark twist on the timeless prince-meets-princess fairytale-as easy to relate to as it is fantastical.
Frank manages to continue to build upon her universe while still giving her central couple the spotlight. In fact, she uses what goes on between Syreena and Damien as a way to build the drama in the larger Nightwalker world. The elements blend pleasingly.

This was a good book, and I am glad I read it to keep up with the series. However, I have enjoyed the books that had the demons as the central characters more.
This was a great book. I have enjoyed reading this entire series.
