This was my first romance novel and I am now on the 2nd of the Three Sisters Island trilogy, by Nora Roberts. Such guilty pleasure and a nice break from the self-help and non-fiction that I generally read. Nora Roberts is a fantastic writer who makes you feel like you are part of the cast of characters that she writes about!
Highly recommend this book.

This is the 1st book in the Three Sisters Island trilogy and is pretty good. I stopped reading Roberts for a while because her stories were getting too much into the paranormal but decided I wanted to read these. This trilogy does get more into witches than some of her previous books. If spells and chants bother you, well, they're in these books and the paranormal aspect grows more and more with each story.
In this one Nell is on the run from an abusive husband, even faking her own death and changing her name. She meets the owner of a bookstore and works in her cafe and discovers a connection with this woman and that she is also a witch with powers. Together the 3 make a circle that is necessary to what's happening in the stories. These 3 women are descendants of 3 original witches from Salem who formed the island. each of those 3 made the 'wrong' choice and now these 3 must face unknown challenges to save the island. Nice romance with her and one of the island cops but as hot as that part of the story is I wouldn't say it's the sole focus.

First in the Three Sisters Island Trilogy, Nora Roberts puts magic, romance and mayhem together with ease.
Perennial New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts's new Three Sisters Island trilogy is pure magic! No, I mean really magic. An intriguing combination of The Witches of Eastwick and Sleeping With the Enemy, Dance Upon the Air introduces readers to the idyllic town of Three Sisters Island. Reputedly conjured by a trio of sisters seeking to escape the Salem witch-hunts, the island remains a place of quiet refuge for one and all, including pretty Nell Channing who arrives in town afraid of her own shadow, with few possessions and no past. But the warm, sunny days and cool, windswept nights, as well as the loving concern of new friends--especially hunky sheriff Zack Todd--soon lure skittish Nell into a much-welcome fresh life. Nell's new boss, the captivatingly lovely bookstore owner Mia Devlin (look for Mia's story, hopefully, in the not-too-distant future), wonders from what or whom Nell is running. Mia treats Nell as she would a sister, which isn't too far off the mark, helping Nell discover and explore her inner resources while Zack's romantic attentions bring a rosy glow to Nell's cheeks and to her future. But something wicked this way comes Will Nell be ready to face and conquer her past? Even with the love and support of Mia, Zack, and Zack's fellow police officer, his peppery, down-to-earth sister Ripley, Nell has the fight of her life--the fight for her life--on her hands. Roberts continues to delight fans and create new believers with her talent and imagination.
Great read! I loved this book...

NOra Roberts writing is excellent. She captures your attention from the beginning and you can't let go until you know the end.
This book is the first in another GREAT Nora Roberts trilogy. It is about 3 woman who find that they are descendants of the the witches of Salem Massachusetts. There is lots of mystery and romance going on in this story. This first book focuses mostly on one of the three and her journey to the island....how she came to be there, what she ran away from, and how she is starting over in life. It's full of fun! If you liked her new "Blood Brothers" book, you will like this one too.
First in the Three Sisters Island trilogy.
When Nell Channing arrives on charming Three Sisters Island, she believes that she's finally found refuge from her abusive husband - and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago...
But even in this quiet, peaceful place, Nell never feels entirely at ease. Careful to conceal her true identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore cafe - and begins to explore her feelings for the island sheriff, Zack Todd. But there is a part of herself she can never reveal to him, for she must continue to guard her secrets if she wants to keep the past at bay. One careless word, one misplaced confidence, and the new life she's so carefully created could shatter completely.
Just as Nell starts to wonder if she'll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realizes that the island suffers under a terrible curse - one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the wiches who settled the island back in 1692. And now, with the help of two other strong, gifted women - and the nightmares of the past haunting her every step - she must find the power to save her home, her love ... and herself.

From Publishers Weekly
The first installment of Roberts's newest trilogy set on Three Sisters island invokes the sensitive characterizations and magic that distinguished her previous trilogy (Jewels of the Sun; Tears of the Moon; Heart of the Sea). An enchanted island off the coast of Massachusetts, Three Sisters was formed as a sanctuary by three frightened witches fleeing persecution. Although the witches found peace on the island, each of them entered into an ill-fated relationship and died tragically. Now their descendants Nell Channing, Ripley Todd and Mia Devlin have to break the pattern set by their foremothers, or the island will sink. This first book focuses on Nell, a newcomer to the island who escaped her abusive husband by staging her death. Nell is unaware that she's a witch, but she is instinctively drawn to the island and secures a job as a chef in the caf owned by Mia. Between coping with her bleak memories and deciding whether she can give her heart to Zach Todd, Ripley's brother and the island sheriff, Nell has little time to digest the discovery that she's a witch. In the end, however, Nell will have to come to terms with her newfound powers so that she can fight her all-too-demented husband. It's probably witchcraft that Roberts can turn out so many books and still create something that's sexy and charming, but in this tale, it's evident that she hasn't lost her fairy touch.

So although I am a devoted Elizabeth Lowell fan, I must admit, Nora Roberts drew me in, tied me up and left me to roast!! I couldn't put this book down long enough. The clinic where my doctor is was 2 hours behind and I couldn't complain one bit - I got to read this book while I was waiting. I didn't even realize I'd been there 3 hours until it was time to leave and I saw the clock radio in the car...
This book is enthralling, well moving and exceptionally written. You will be amazed at how you get sucked in to the story and plot of the Three Sisters. If you like it as much as I do, you'll be upset it ends and the other two novels aren't included in the same binding!!
Easy to say this, but I give it 5 stars!

This is the first book of the Three Sisters Island Trilogy.
Nell Channing (aka Helen Remington) is running from her rich and abusive husband. She's left their opulent home in California with practically nothing and driven her way across the US. Her final stop is the Three Sisters Island â a resort island a ferry-ride from the mainland of Massachusetts.
Upon her arrival, she is hired to work at the Café Book owned by Mia Devlin. Despite the protests from Lulu, the woman who practically raised her, Mia loans money to Nell and sets her up in a local cottage that she owns.
She also meets Zack Todd, the local sheriff, and his sister, Ripley, who is also the local sheriff's deputy.
Nell's arrival at the island brings the three descendants of the island's original witches.
Mia is an experienced and practicing witch and she begins to teach Nell, but Ripley has long abandoned her powers and despite the fact that she and Mia were once almost inseparable friends, they aren't now.
Plus, there's the fact that Nell is falling in love with Zack. But she is really still married to her abusive husband, Evan Remington, who thinks she died in a horrific car accident.
Once again, another good story by Nora Roberts.

This book was recommended to me by a friend I just couldn't get into it. I usually LOVE Nora Roberts, and I can't get enough of the other two paranormal trilogies that I've read from her.. but this one just wasn't for me. From what I've heard though, it's a favorite of others. It's got a bit of a slower pace than some of her other books, so maybe that's what put me off. I might give it another try later.. but for now it's off to the PBS bookshelf. :)

Nora Roberts is one of the few 'constants' in romantic fiction today. As an author, she paints vivid characters and sets a colorful scene in your mind where her story will unfold. Her books never fail to capture your interest from the first paragraph and hold it till the last sentence. Her trilogies are beyond compare. 'Dance Upon the Air' is the first of a new trilogy. Mia Devlin finds the completion to the 'circle of three' in new islander Nell Channing. She knows Nell is running away, but sees in her the promise of the future. Hero Zack Todd is big, brainy and beautiful. The perfect knight in a shining sheriff's badge. You get immersed in the love developing between Zack and Nell, and intrigued by Mia's spell casting and 'calling up the wind'. Ripley Todd, sure to be the star of one of the two remaining installments share some of the wittiest and most biting dialog with Mia. Their all too brief altercations will having laughing out loud.

This is the first in the bewitching Three Sisters Island trilogy! A nice change from the other topics Nora Roberts usually focuses on!
Loved it, can't wait to get to the next book in the series.
Nice mix of romance & mystery.
First in Nora Roberts' Three Sisters Island Trilogy. Good story, in spite of the witchcraft which I did find interesting, despite myself.

Couldn't put it down--fascinating reading with a thriller ending.
I enjoyed this book. Although it was pretty much a "formula'' romance book with a bit of suspense/mystery added in, the story was interesting and kept my attention. Nice relaxing read.

I had never read a Nora Roberts book and i was a little hesitant. However, I really liked this book. I felt like I was in the action and Nora's detailed descriptions made it very easy to visualize. i find that she writes like it is a movie. If you are at all attracted to paranormal chick lit..definitely read this book.
Really good book!

First in the series ... has some magic in it so it was one of my favorite trilogies from Nora Roberts.
I love the east coast where this series takes place. Do you believe in magic?
This book is the first in a series of three. I loved the storyline and romance. It's about a curse put on an island located off the coast of Mass., in 1692, by three witches, and the decendants adventures. Good reading.

Rated with four and a half stars on Amazon.com, this is first installment of Roberts's newest trilogy set on Three Sisters island invokes the sensitive characterizations and magic that distinguished her previous trilogy (Jewels of the Sun; Tears of the Moon; Heart of the Sea).
