This brutally honest memior, co-written by one of the top female ballet dancers of all time, and her husband (whom she met, while knocking on the door of a drug dealer's apartment) reveals her battle with eating disorders and drug addiction. It is a "tell-it-all" view of the "world of dance." A stunning autobiography!

I read this book as a teenager when I was taking dance lessons--it presents the life of a "ballerina" in a harshly realistic light, from body image to celebrity status to the physical demands of rehearsal and performance. Kirkland's relationsips with Ballanchine and Barishnikov are highlighted in this moving autobiography. A must for any serious dancer, young or old!

true story of one of the most acclaimed dancers of our time, Gelsey Kirkland -- the ballerina who partnered Mikhail Baryshnikov onstage and off during a stormy four-year relationship.
