Another very well written book from author Traci Depree! Anyone who loved meeting the characters of Lake Emily in "A Can of Peas" will enjoy finding out what happens next in their lives, and the lessons they learn along the way.

Lake Emily, Minnesota is a small, rural close-knit farming community. Trudy, a talented 30-year-old artist relocates from St. Paul to teach art in the elementary and high schools. She is impulsive, outspoken, and too often speaks before she thinks. She will likely annoy many readers â a lot â and she definitely creates unwanted attention in Lake Emily. Her sister, Mae, and her husband, Peter, work the family farm he bought from his grandmother. The sisters' mother in St Paul was extremely critical of either daughter's decision to move away from the city.
Depending on a reader's mood, this light Christian fiction could be a beach read or a story that offers a richer experience. The theme is about loss; for a loved one in the past or the result of a life-changing decision or event. To be honest, I didn't finish this book. I was annnoyed and a little confused by the jumping around between generations. First, I got interested in what was happening to Trudy, but then we dropped Trudy and focused on David, a young man about to start studies at Julliard, and his father, Roy. The next thing we know, David is playing in a concert and his son Peter is listening. Roy has disappeared with no explanation. Dates would have helped, and perhaps even a family tree or trees. Sure, I could have perservered and figured it all out, but I wasn't that interested, with so many good books waiting on my TBR list. When I noticed that so many people have it on their wish list, I decided to pass it on.

It was a little slow getting into it, but the ending was worth the read. It did jump around from characters and generations quite a bit.
This was my first experience with this author Traci Depree. I found her style of writing very enjoyable - easy to follow - with a good development of characters.
This was a good wholesome story - mirrored real life situations - and made you feel as though you were part of this family and community.

This is the Lake Emily, book2. Mae's crazy sister Trudy Ploog is 30 tears old and wants a husband so she moves to Lake Emily, Minnesota to be near to Bert Biddle her quiet unassuming farmer boyfriend. This is a beautiful gift book.
