Another good Dick Francis. A little far-fetched and the hero is always beaten-down, but alway arises and triumphs.

In this fast-paced mystery, Dick Francis mixes the racing industry with kidnapping. His protagonist, Andrew Douglas, works for a company which works with police to negotiate the release of kidnap victims. He stumbles upon a mastermind kidnapper who targets victims in the racing world, recruits local thugs in Italy, England, and the U.S., and always manages to stay one step ahead of the law. This is a good, fast, entertaining read.

A great novel by a great author. It starts with a kidnapping, not of a horse but of a jockey. A beautiful Italian girl daughter of a wealthy father. Covered by an insurance company that covers people at risk (there are such companies) the story follows the rescue.

When Dick Francis was alive, I knew that with every book i was practically guaranteed to find a superbly calm and confident hero who was nonetheless an ordinary guy. Usually there'd be a potential love interest with a smart woman, sometimes it would work out but sometimes not. THE DANGER is one of my favorites. I liked the idea of Liberty Market, and I wonder what it was about Andrew that the other partners, almost all ex-military, saw when they invited him in. i liked the shift from Itlay to Great Britain to America, and of course it all comes out right in the end.
