The characters were very believable and the circumstances as well. I enjoyed the story and the influx of historical facts to learn upon. Highly recommended reading!!

A delightful tale full of intrigue and romantic tension. The heroine is a strong role that keeps the proverbial fur flying! A great read.
Anthony, Lord Beale, did not want his sickly, musical-genius nephew to marry Eleanor, thinking she, an American, was a nefarious gold-digger. Too late was he in his objections for they had already married and then moved from London to Naples. From the first time Anthony saw Eleanor, the day he visited to try to "buy her off," he was strangely attracted to her.......

Great book! It was the first I had read of Ms. Camp's and I was pleasantly surprised. Humor, a bit of romance, and intrigue.
Eleanor has always been looked on askance as "the bossy American" by London society, the very antithesis of British virtue and propriety. Now, at the death of her husband, she has been appointed trustee to his estate, and the proverbial fur is flying. Infuriated, her mother-in-law sends Lord Anthony Neale to put an end to Eleanor's nefarious gold-digging ways.
Anthony and Eleanor clash immediately. He thinks she's a siren who uses beauty to entrap men. She thinks he's a haughty, cold English snob. Despite their initial misgivings, they are increasingly drawn to each other. But someone is threatening Eleanor, and as the break-ins and other malicious activities begin to pile up... it's Anthony who tops the list of probable suspects.

The whodunit is cleverly developed to bring suspense to the story line and serve as an impetus for matchmaking the lead couple. Candace Camp is at her best with this one sitting amateur sleuth romance.

This book is a sequel to "An Independent Woman", which was about Lord Nicholas Barre and his childhood friend, Juliana Holcott. In "A Dangerous Man", Juliana's best friend, Eleanor (Lady Scarbrough) is newly widowed and blamed for her husband's death by his mother. Her husband's uncle, Lord Anthony Neale, thinks Eleanor is a gold-digger who was just after Edmund's money. They clash from the first time they meet (depicted first in "An Independent Woman"). Then someone starts threatening Eleanor, and the mystery begins....
