This is the second book in the Dark series and I have read three. The Dark Prince, Dark Descent, and Dark Desire. I really do like the style that Christine writes in. I find it full of passion. This one is a good read and an important one in the series. I did however, like the other two a little better as I couldn't put them down. Still a big thumbs up for Dark Desire! Feehan has great talent in her creativity and style.

I'm fairly certain that this woman is the worst writer in her genre...how do these people get published? I tell you, it gives an aspiring writer hope - if SHE can do it...
Ridiculously overdone and insipid dialogue (here's an actual sample), "...Hear Me! Join With Me! Save Me Now! ...You must join with me to save me from this monster tearing insanely at my flesh!" And, even more horrifying, "Laughing, coughing, they broke apart and swam to the surface, the horrors of the day drowned in the depth of their love."
Oh. My. God. Save yourselves! This is actually the second book I've tried by this author (an EVIL friend kept telling me they were great) and it just gets worse and worse...yet, strangely, people still buy her books. Better you than me!

Please enjoy the magic behind the book of dark desire. Christine Feehan has again outdid herself with her series of carpathians. In this book she will let your imagination fly with wonder at things that could be true. Her hero was perfect as always the strong old world type the people like to imagine. He is strong but never is he afraid to show his love for his lifemate. Please curl up and enjoy this book and all the rest of her series.

Wow. Jacques' story is amazing. I love the Dark series and this may well become one of my absolute favorites. His torment is so real and the plot so well crafted. Just... wow.

A friend of my daughter tried to get me to read various books by Feehan a few years back. I could never get into them at all. Then you gave me Dark Desire to read. It completely floored me. The brink of insanity of the main character caught me in the writer's web. This was the one book that finally got me reading Feehan's books. I love it. I highly recommend it to anyone to read who enjoys this genre.

I really enjoyed this book! I stayed up late two nights in a row to finish it--and I would've finished it in 1 day, but, alas, my children thought they needed to be fed and taken care of! The first book in the series was good, but I felt this one was even better. I highly recommend it.

The book is about an American doctor named Shea who is half Carpathian (which is an immortal almost)and does not know it. She believes she has a some kind of a rare blood disease. One night she has a dream about a man being killed and made to suffer and actually feels the pain he is in. She passes it off as a dream until one day two men show up trying to kill her like the man they tortured in her dream. They claim she is a vampire so she escapes and travels to the Carpathian mountains. That is where her father is from and she thinks that her father had the rare blood disease also. She finds the tortured man from her dreams in a cellar and saves him from his prison. It goes on to tell of their struggles between the man's sanity and her accepting what is in her blood. They are soul mates and their love conquers all.
This book was definitely better than the first in the series. The writing style is easier to read and the plot is great. I am glad I kept reading the series after the first book.

I really enjoyed this book, as I have most of the Carpathian novels I have read. This book drew me In very quickly. It was entriguing to me that the hero of the story was the typical dominant male as well as having a weakness. It was definetly a unique twist. I actually have read many of the books that are later in the series and you can see how Christine has grown as a writer. I am just now reading her beginning books and to be honest most of them are not that great. What are supposed to be strong independent women tend to fall apart rather quickly. That didn't seem to apply to this book and for that I am grateful. I loves jaques' need for Shea. It was an unconventional idea for a romance novel and it really tugged at my heart.

This story was a little redundant at times. I had to skim thru a couple of pages during a scene that took place in the cabin. It seems like nothing happened there and the author was trying to come up with words to pass the time. Jacques was an ok character but I could not stand Shea. For whatever reason she made me not like her she was a really poor heroine in my opinion to Jacques.
My favorite genre is romance, and keep that in mind when I say that Christine Feehan overdoes the sex scenes. I love a well-written sex scene just as much as the next fan, but honestly, after the first few, I skim over them when I see them coming. She weaves an intriguing plot, and that's what keeps me going. I like the characters, for the most part. I wish her females would be a little quicker to embrace the Carpathian way. They are so strong in so many other ways (or at least she tries to make them out to be), you would think they would be strong and smart enough to adapt a little quicker to feeding. I hope she writes one about a female who shocks them all by adapting much quicker.
I bought the first 4 books in this series before reading any of them, and i'll at least finish these 4. After that, we'll see if I continue with the series.
And I truly get tired of romance books about little, tiny, petite women. How about a tall, beautiful Amazon woman??

Let's face it, Christine Feehan is the queen of paranormal romance. I love everything she writes. That being said, this book is not among my favorites in the Carpathian series as it is a bit too dark and I found it hard to empathize with Jacques. However, it IS important to the series and the series is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD as a whole. My recommendation to all new Carpathian readers is to read them in the correct order & be sure to read the next several books in the series... even if you are not in love with this one. I would also suggest her other series to you... Drake Sisters & Ghost Walkers-completely different but phenomenal reads.

YOu get a new inside into what they could be like without a mate.... If the mind is shattered by the loss of their mate and they decide not to follow them...... and what happens if they can't remember their family. It was a good story, we get to learn about 3 charictures (a little about Gregori, and how he ends up with his lifemate).... I found it refreshing to get away from just the macho "i'm all that and a bad of chips" mentality that most of the carpathian men have.
I find that for those who get lost while reading these series, pick up "Dark Celebration" and you will get more of a great inside story on all the males as a whole. Since in Celebration they all get to come together for a large celebration of This couples coming "joy".... It will make you laugh till your side hurts, cry till your head hurts, and pick up again and again, when you finish reading any of these other ones.
:)
I can't wait till I get the latest one in this series!

This book is a classic for a number of reasons. It uses unusual characters, settings, and plot to create a beautiful love story.
Jacques is a member of the Carpathian race, a unique group of people with special mystical abilities. To humans he is seen as evil. He has been captured by human vampire slayers, tortured, and buried alive.
Years pass before Shea, a human doctor with psychic abilities, discovers and rescues Jacques. Through his madness and rage he recognizes her as his lifemate. And she, against all odds, finds herself equally drawn to him.
Shea is a likable character, and her development throughout the story is both interesting and realistic. Jacques is surprisingly romantic for a mad man. He tries to take care of Shea despite his pain. The story of their love overall is intricate and fascinating.
Anyone who has read Dark Prince, the first book in this series, will really appreciate the return of past characters. They continue to grow and develop.
I highly recommend this series to fans of paranormal romance. In many ways it is the standard by which others are compared.

This is book two of her Dark Series. It is best to start with Dark Prince. This series is my favorite vampire series. It is a long series with more to be written.
Christine Feehan is a great new find for me!!!

The plot of Bk 2 seemed very similar to the plot of Bk 1 - very predictable. I couldn't really get into Bk 1 until the very end, so I decided I'd give Bk 2 a try. I don't think I'll be finishing it. I don't find the characters likable/believable, and I don't like the way the males are very controlling, and how women are basically tricked into becoming Carpathians. If you like vampire books, there are much better series out there.
Love the series. This was a great read.

This was the first Feehand book I read, the first Carpathians book I read. I was hooked from the very beginning and read it thru non-stop. This remains my very favorite in the series, tied for 1st place with "Dark Legend". Never thought I'd say that about these kinds of books which, before this one, I had never read and never wanted to. Good stuff!
love the carpathians
For a second book in the series it is not bad. Shea, the heroine, is very independent, strong, and overall a good character. I like many of the scenes description but some of the words were like her tiny and delicate frame where vastly overused. I live the creation of the world and even the sex scenes were dynamic. It not the great book her later books become, but it is nether less a good book and a good read. However, I gave it a three because sometimes the drama does lag and at times it got boring being bashed in the head with "you are my lifemate for all time and you have no say in the matter." I thought Jacques was a little to overbearing.
This is a great series. This is the second one and the stry of Jacques and Shea.
Great intro to series, hooked me right away, love the strong psychic component and the totally alpha sexy carpathian!
Better than its predecessor, Dark Prince (1st in the series), Dark Desire shows more polished writing, and more complex relationships. Jacques & Shea are better matched, more of an equal match, than Mikhail & Raven in Dark Prince.
