This is the best book in the series so far. Once again, another powerful Carpathian male discovers his lifemate. This time it is Lucian, Gabriel's twin. His lifemate is Jaxon - a tough, no-nonsense police officer. Several of the plot devices made sense to me. One, Lucian "stalks" her before making her aware of his presence - learning what he can about her rather than just walking in, stating that she is his lifemate and demanding that she fall in line. Two, she reacts like a normal human to him - she threatens to shoot him! I liked the fact that although he is very powerful, she is no shrinking violet. I also just loved hearing more about Carpathain history and how it is that Lucian was able to hold off the "darkness" in himself longer than any other Carpathian male.

The tale of the policewoman and a carpathian just about boggles the mind. How would two very strong willed people make it. Will he give up? Or will his old world charm win out?? Or will she bend him to her will. With the tales of the carpatians you will never know till the end. Christine Feehan will keep you on the edge of you seat. So curl up and enjoy . I sure do.
I like Christine Feehan, but boy was this novel bloody and gorey. Some of the scenes were downright disturbing. Not a before-bed read!

Great Book!!
Love love love this one......Lucian is one of my favorites....
Great book.
This was a little different than some of the others in the series because it had a human woman in it, rather than a Carpathian, and it had Lucian in it who is a very ancient Carpathian male with strong gifts. They are both interesting characters. The one thing that did disappoint me a little is it started detailing an interesting plot line regarding the "deadly menace that dogged her (Jaxon's) every footstep", then it kind of let it drop and had a quickie ending involving it at the very end. That disappointed me. I like these books, even though I don't read "romance" as a rule, because of the Carpathian theme in it. Some have more detailed stories involving the Carpathian "gifts" and a mysterious story line, while others have mostly "love scenes" throughout, which don't interest me as much.
Basically, if you like nothing but romance then certain ones of the 'Dark' series will appeal to you, while if you like a deeper story line then there are others that contain more of that with less romance. Whichever you prefer, these books are good either way. Even though I don't read "romance" I keep reading more of the books in this series! There is just something about all of Feehan's books that catch your interest right away and then keep you wanting to come back, over and over. They are easy to read and definitely NOT boring. I don't think I could find a slow spot if I tried. Even if they are a bit repititious, it's still a sign of a good writer when people keep coming back for more, and more, and more, and.......

I have really enjoyed reading this series . This book is very good. I had trouble putting it down until it was finished.
Lucian and Jaxon...I have been waiting to see Gabriel's twin since I read his story and this was not disappointing! Jaxon is a firecracker with her own strengths that Lucian cannot overshadow and he is just as delicious as all the other Carpathian men. I have not read a Feehan book that was boring yet and I doubt I will. White-lightning all the way!
These are always pretty fluffy and this is no exception. Fast easy read. I don't read them very close together as they tend to be somewhat similar.
love the carpathians
Christine Feehan is a great new find for me!!!
A great book to read great romance ,funny that you cant put it down
What a great follow up to Gabriel's story! Both Lucian and his brother are legends among their people. After having selflessly sacrificed everything so that his twin brother could live with honor, until he was saved from the darkness by finding his lifemate. Lucien thought his job was done and he could finally greet the dawn. Along comes Jaxon, his own reward. As dominant as one would think he'd be, having lived without emotion for centuries battling vampires, he graciously accepts that Jaxon will not stand behind him or wait at home like the women of his own species. No she expects to fight right by his side, and challenges him at every turn. Excellent story and a great addition to the series.
I loved this book! So far I think it is the best in her series. I am not sure why, but I really thought this was pulled off fantastically.

He was the Dark Guardian of his people. So how, after centuries of bleak, soulless existence, had he suddenly come to crave petite, curvy, colorful lady cop Jaxon Montgomery, who foolishly made it her life's work to protect others from harm?
I must admit that I was not to impressed with the first part of this book but,as I got into the body of the story it was really good,Christine Feehan is a new author for me to read; will again take my time in reading her books to really get the full picture that she is trying to delivering to her readers.

One of my favorite in this series.
After centuries of soulless existence as the dark guardian of his people, Lucian suddenly craves lady cop Jaxon Montgomery. Jaxx would sacrifice anything to shield others, particularly since a deadly menace dogs her every step. Oddly, Lucian, a born predator who ran with the wolves, vows to guard her for all time.

I really like this Carpathian novel, this is one of the few that doesn't follow the typical alpha male even though he is a typical alpha male.
8th in the Dark series. It is not needed to read these books in order. Another book that keeps you reading.
Love Christine Feehan. More, more, more.
Good Read. A really interesting twist. Some old characters make an appearance!

A great read from the Dark Hunter Series. Lucian is yet another sexy Carpathian. Very dramatic; was disappointed however in the way Jaxx continously misjudged situations and put herself in danger.
Well written and suspenseful.
So far my number one book from the series (devoted fan of the series) I loved it from begging to end. A spunky police woman and a powerful ancient Carpatian combo = to a epic win.

A lot over the top, but I can never put a book down once I start. Didn't really like it.
good story
Dark Guardian is about Carpathian Lucian and police detective Jaxon, where her step-father is a serial killer. I had trouble relating to Jaxon and found her annoying. This is my 1st Feehan book. I was hoping her paranormal romance stories would be fascinating like Kenyon. But I struggled through the book because I didn't find it interesting.
A great vampire story! They seem so lovable in Christine's books!
