Mind bending and intriguing. If you don't like the path you took, would you take a chance and change the course?
Very thought provoking. Many details seem to be filler and not relevant to the theme of the book though.
I don't read a lot of science fiction and this book validates why.
Granted, I loved the premise of the book, which is what drew me to reading it in the first place. I think most people wonder where their lives would be if they had made another choice at some point. Therefore, the book pulled me in at the beginning, but a few chapters later, I felt like the story lost me and I never felt like I understood much from there on.
It was a bit of a page turner for a while though, so there's at least something positive I can say about it. I just felt like it was either above my head, or maybe it was just not my cup of tea in general, but I started skimming the rest of the book somewhere around the halfway point. I almost didn't finish it, but something made me want to see how it ended.
Unfortunately, the end fell flat for me. I just felt like I wasted my time reading this confusing mess. I suppose I'm in the minority as it seems a lot of people loved this book, but I won't be reading anything else by this author.

He wakes to a world where his wife is not his wife and his son was never born. How can Jason make it back to the family he loves? This sci-fi thriller is about choices, paths not taken and how far we'll go to claim the lives we dream of. Even though sci-fi is not my normal genre, this book made me think and was a bit of a mind-bender. It is well written and the characters felt real. I found the theory of quantum mechanics fascinating. I look forward to reading his next book and I would highly recommend this to those who love sci-fi mystery thrillers.
His language is too rough for me!
Certainly an interesting concept, although I thought the way it ended was messy. Most of the narrative was skimmable, with so much detail about going down this hallway, staying in this hotel, and whatnot. And a note about the B\D\W\Y Broadway Books edition: although it has 472 pages, the text could probably have been printed on about 3/4ths that number since the margins are pretty wide.
The book drew me in with its interesting premise, and the 'science' of this was handled in a very digestible manner. Wit. I believe that Blake Crouch has had some success with Book to TV conversions, And can see how Dark Matter could easily translate into a TV series or film. Ultimately, the book will satisfy science fiction lovers, but I feel it ran out of steam a little at the end.
Wow... what an awesome book! I was hooked from the very beginning up until the end. It's hard to describe what the book is about without causing spoilers. It goes off of the theory of multi-universes and what causes them. For example, every action/decision we make causes another universe to open up. Say we have a choice to go to college. Well that opens up one universe in which we decide to go and another in which we decided not to go and so on and so on. The story is built off of that and done in such a way that you'll find yourself biting your nails at times. This is the first Crouch book I've read and it has made me a fan!
An unexpected wild ride! I love Blake Crouch and his writing style. If you have read his previous books, you know what I mean. This, however, is quite different and really hard to put a label on. Thriller/mystery/murder and mayhem/sci-fi? It is all of these and more. I couldn't put it down. I would have given it 5 stars (and it is an amazing read) but I just wanted one glimpse more at the end. Could there be a sequel, Mr. Crouch? Pretty please!

Well that didn't go like I thought it would. Such an interesting book. Had to binge read the rest of it today.
Okay my mind is blown! Wow, I picked this one up yesterday and I really couldn't stop turning the pages. One of the most unusual thought-provoking novels that I have read in some time. DARK MATTERS poses the question to its readers "Is my life all that it could have been? What if I would have done things differently?" It's the story of Jason Dessen who seems to have a perfect life with his wife and 14-year old son. But then one night on his way home from a bar, he is kidnapped and sent to an unknown world. So who was his kidnapper and what was his motive? Will Jason be able to find his old life again? The novel delves into theory involving quantum mechanics and the possible existence of parallel universes or multiverses (science way over my head) but the story is told in such a compelling way that anyone reading this will be struggling along with the protagonist trying to find a way home. This was one of the best novels I have read in recent years and now I want to read Crouch's Wayward Pines trilogy as well (I saw the TV series production of this last year). Very high overall recommendation for this one!
