I have waited for Sophia and Decker's story for what seems like forever. I was so excited to pick up this book.
Until I opened it to the first page that is. I will not ruin it for you. But I am disappointed with what Brockmann did to my beloved "couple".
I don't understand why she did what she did. But I will say she ruined, what could have and would have been a wonderful relationship. I read through the entire book, hoping I would like what she did with the characters, but I didn't.
So my review, don't pick it up if you wanted a happy ending for Sophia and Deck.

This has been the highly anticipated conclusion to the story arc that began in Flashpoint. I am glad that it is finally over...it has been driving me crazy over the last couple of books. I will not give away any spoilers to the plot here...I'll talk in generalities, so as not to ruin it for anyone.
First, I have to say that I am a HUGE fan of this series. I *have* to read the book as soon as it is released or I go crazy. I also learned the spoilers before I read the book and I don't regret it.
I did enjoy this book. I was disappointed with some aspects--resolutions were not as well written as they could have been, some of the story was a little weak, old favorite characters became annoying, etc (I will say that I used to like Sophia, but now I wouldn't care if she were never mentioned again). What I did enjoy was the fast pace. It moved slow for the first 80 pages or so, but after that, I had a hard time putting it down. There were a few great scenes between some old favorites (I LOVE Sam!) and I wished for more from them.
This was not even close to a favorite in the series...it is actually probably near the bottom, but I love some of the early books so much that I'm not sure that Suz will ever be able to beat them.
I am hoping that now that this annoying story arc is over and done with that Suz will get back to better stuff...maybe Lopez's story??? I think she is setting him up for something, so I am looking forward to that.

Taken as a stand alone novel, this is a fine example of romantic suspense. Taken as part of the Troubleshooters series, it has it's ups and downs. We've watched Deck and Sophia for a while now and been teased and waited for their story. I am not necessarily against how it worked out, but it seems that there were drastic personality changes with Deck, who was apparently never that interested in Sophia, and Dave, (who has been a favorite of mine) becoming just as testosterone laden as the rest of the guys, and Tracey, who at one time couldn't work the coffee machine, now being the sharpest knife in the drawer. That was jarring. Overall I enjoyed the story, but was disappointed in the character changes. And Brockmann should just stick with straight up sex, she doesn't know what to do with anything harder edged.
Well, I finally got this book off my shelf after I finished Into The Fire. Been 3 years coming. I read a spoiler about Nash from Flashpoint and got so depressed(since he was my fav) I filed them away. Boy, was I glad I started again. Fire was awesome. Dark of Night was just as good. Although the story wasn't what I had expected, I loved it. Fast pace with twist and turns; and poignant and bittersweet. Old favorites with new partners, just like life. You cannot wish it and make it so. I know I am speaking in riddles, but don't want to give away the story. Suffice it to say, READ it. A lot of our favorite characters make their appearances. Something for everyone.

I stayed up way too late finishing this book. I simply could NOT put it down. Nonstop action and suspense combined with fantastic romantic relationships totally drew me in. I know a lot of people were disappointed with which characters got together, but not me. I thought both Decker's and Dave's love stories were well done and I was rooting for them both to work things out for a happily ever after.
It was wonderful to have so many of the past characters back in such prominent roles, too. It's always great to read about Jules & Robin, Sam & Alyssa, Jimmy & Tess, etc. I feel like the whole Troubleshooters/SEALs gang is family and I don't ever want this series to end!
