I have read several of Dean Kootnz's books and this to me is one of if not his best. I enjoyed it from start to finish. It may make you rethink some of your opinions of our Government. At the end of the book in a section named Afterward, Mr Kootnz gives details on happenings mentioned in the story, it in it's self is enlightening, especially about the Asset Forfiture Laws and our (beloved?) Congress. Also a short mention of the Branch Davidian event and the fiasco at Ruby Ridge with the Weaver family.

Big Brother! This book is thought provoking and kept my interest. Nothing else needed.

It is difficult to imagine a reader who won't be hooked by this thriller about goverment power run amok and a man and woman on the run from the madman who wields that power. Unrelenting excitement, truly memorable characters, and ample food for thought.

This was a terrific story!

This was my first Dean Koontz. I liked the story though it does not seem plausible, it was well written enough to keep you in the story. I used to live in both Santa Monica and Las Vegas, that also added to my entertainment. I would recommend this book for a good action story, with a likeable characters. It was easy to read and I will probably read more of his books in the future.

Spencer Grant is on the run from a nameless, violent government agency. His goal is to keep away from his pursuers long enough to find the woman he met the night before, who appears to be their real target. Spencer has no idea why they want to kill Valerie Keene, but his brief acquaintance with her has convinced him that the killers have no good reason for wanting her dead. With his game but fearful dog, Rocky, Spencer leads the killers on a frustrating chase. By the end of the story, Spencer must confront his own personal demons as well as the bizarre sociopathic agent leading the hunt. The government's activities-especially the incredible surveillance techniques that Koontz, in an afterword, claims are currently being used-help create an atmosphere of intense paranoia and fear. This superb suspense novel will surely delight the author's many fans.

Excellent Read!
Typical Dean Koontz book with same type of characters. But I still love his writing.

Really creepy. Sends chills down the spine to think is this possible?
One of his better recent books... I really liked this one. Charachters were compelling...
Entertaining and exciting read.
I did not find this book exciting, entertaining, and thoughtful as did The Denver Post. I found it too long and drawn out. It was too discriptive. Wish I would have spent my time reading something else.
This book starts out very good and had many twists and turns to keep me fascinated. But then the length started taking its toll and hurting the story line I couldn't wait to finish it so I could put it back on the bookshelf. Then when I finally did finish the book I was totally unsatisfied by the ending.
Not as good as some other Koontz novels, but still a page-turner
Now this IS a good one...couldn't put this one down!
Great and thrilling read! Koontz at his best!
a great read, new york times best seller. great action, good read!
One of his best!
Dean Koontz is my favorite author. This was a good one.
I liked it. Kept my interest.
Thriller, government agents on the wrong side, don't know who to trust.
There is a fresh suprise on almost every page. This is a thriller about government power run amok and a man and woman on the run from the madman who wields that power.
I'm a big fan of Dean Koontz. I loved this book as much as all his others!
Scary Koontz!
As always with Dean Koontz it is a heart stopper. With a ton of suspense and great characters. He is one of my favorite authors by far.
One of Koontz better books that remains mostly in this world.
A thriller about government power run amok and a man and woman on the run from the madman who wields that power. Unrelenting excitement, memorable characters and food for thought.
Action packed thriller with evil government agents, two heroes and one faithful dog. The Big Brother technology was mostly real when Koontz wrote this book back in 1994, and now sadly seems almost quaint - we have much better ways of surveillance and killing from above. Spencer and Valerie would have been blown to bits by a drone in the first 100 pages. I thought the addition of the serial killer dad was over the top...but that's what Koontz is all about. Talk about your purple prose! When it comes to evoking a mood or setting a scene, Koontz pulls out all the stops. Sometimes, IMHO, less is better. But the message in this book is still clear and still pertinent today.
Dark Rivers of the Heart....Do you dare step through the red door?

I think this is one of Dean Koontz's BEST books! I learned a lot, he did some serious research in writing this one! I've read it at least three times! GREAT read!
I can't even remember books like this after I read them. I think this one has giant lasers shot from space in it. Probably a genetically altered super smart dog, too. Probably all the same crap that's in every Koontz novel. It's enjoyable, but...
