If you like a traditional old style vampire romance with lots of historical content then you will like the St. Germain series by Yarbro.
The Count ends up in Russia, with the usual xenophobia and political intrigue. I've been thinking that Yarbro has not given St. Germain many advantages to go along with his affliction. It would seem anyone could be an alchemist, he doesn't get that because he's a vampire. He's got extraordinary strength to be sure but it doesn't keep him out of trouble. Seems like if you could creep into a woman's bedroom at night and make her think it's a dream, you could do the same with your political enemies and find out what they're thinking.
Anyway, a little bit of history during the time of Ivan the Terrible, and then we're on the run again. Doesn't matter where you start in this series, they are practically standalones.
