This book is a cross between a private investigator and the movie Jerry Maguire (involving a sports agent). A really slow start with chapters that don't appear to flow together. Seems kinda disjointed until around page 140 when it picks up and start making sense.

Myron Bolitar is an ex-basketball star who gets injured and becomes a sports agent. In the slow times, he has been tapped by friends to investigate crimes and such is what happens here. Myron's high school sweetheart calls out of the blue on day with a fantastic story that catches his interest immediately. Her son has a rare form of blood disorder and needs a bone marrow transplant in order to survive. However the only donor match that was found has disappeared off the face of the earth. She asks Myron to locate said donor. All hell breaks loose at this point and the plot thickens. A journalist, a serial killers, a reclusive rich family, a couple of ex-female wrestlers, a paternity test, a missing donor and one very sick 13 year old child are all in the mix. It sounds kooky and it is but somehow Harlan Coben works it all together and comes up with an incredibly suspenseful mystery novel that will hold your attenion (once you get past page 140) until the end. Many surprising twists and emotional roller coasters. Good stuff.

Even though Myron Bolitar is a sports representative the books are not about sports, it has references to their job but the stories are more about mysteries. This was a complete surprise at the end when the truth finally comes out. enjoyed it a lot

I enjoyed the story, although it wasn't as suspenseful as I'd expected. Myron's character had a sarcastic edge that amused me. I don't quite understand Win and what makes him tick or where he came from, but still a good book to pass the time.

I've read several Coben books, but this is the first in the Myron Bolitar series. As you would expect, this is a fast-paced book with romance, mystery, and suspense that also tugs at your emotions. It deals with a serious theme that pulls you into Myron's personal life. A very good book.

Excellent thriller. I stayed up late into the night to finish it. Story was unpredictable, suspenseful and some parts are even funny.
I must agree with the Denver post, "Coben is a gifted storyteller" and I trying to buy and read all his novels.

Myron Bolitar's ex-girlfriend, Emily Downing, approaches him with a request. Her son, Jeremy, has a rare disorder and needs a bone marrow transplant or he will die. The donor has disappeared and she needs Myron to track him down. Myron feels bad but doesn't want to get involved, until Emily drops a bombshell: Jeremy is Myron's son. With the help of Win and Esperanza, Myron begins a search which leads him to a missing child, brutal kidnappings, a disgraced reporter, and a possible serial killer.

This is the 7th book in the Myron Bolitar series. You would think by now, the series would be getting stale or the author would be running out of surprise twists to throw us off. But this series is still going strong. Another great mystery with many seeming loose ends that end up tied in a neat bow at the end. My rating: 5 Stars.

Book Description
In his seventh Myron Bolitar thriller, Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben brings us his most astonishing--and deeply personal--novel yet. And it all begins when Myron's ex tells him he's a father . . . of a dying thirteen-year-old boy.

A surprise visit from an ex-girlfriend is unsettling enough. But Emily Downing's news brings Myron to his knees. Her son Jeremy is dying and needs a bone marrow transplant from a donor who has vanished without a trace. Then comes the real shocker: Jeremy is Myron's son, conceived the night before Emily's wedding to another man. Myron is determined to help him. But finding the missing donor means cracking open a dark mystery that involves a broken family, a brutal kidnapping spree, and the FBI. And as doubts emerge about Jeremy's true paternity, a child vanishes, igniting a chain reaction of heartbreaking truth and chilling revelation.

My Review
I would have to say that this book of the Myron Bolitar series is the best so far. Interesting characters, excellent plot with lots of twists and witty dialogue. It grabbed my heart from the beginning and didn't let go until the very end. It's best to read this series from the beginning therefore allowing you to see the growth of the characters. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment, Promise Me, in order to catch up with the characters once again.
