So, the third book in this trilogy/series finally hooked me! I couldn't put it down. I read it last night for two hours and when my plans were changed today, ended up finishing it in another 3!
This one has more story and the characters' stories are more entwined in this book. It isn't just about one of the warriors and their sex, as the other two have been. This one had some meat and bones to satisfy my needs for a story with my sex...
Without giving this away, it does have the good vs Evil and good wins BUT you really get wrapped up in the story! (Maybe since they weren't tripping off to have sex every other chapter....don't get me wrong. I enjoy that aspect well, but this one felt different than Darkest Night and Darkest Kiss) This one definitely makes me look forward to finding out who the next warrior to fall is!
I think Ms Showalter won me over with this one... She is one of the few writers that makes me laugh out loud with the detailed and original characters she created! I LOVE Gideon and know so many people like Cameo...
Hope you enjoy it as well!

To me this book at last began to live up to the promise of the first one. It was hot, action packed, and romantic.
Reyes is the keeper of the demon pain. Everyday he must hurt himself to keep up his strength and avoid madness. Danika is a woman on the run, having been targeted by the gods who control (at least partially) the Lords of the Underworld. Reyes is determined to keep her safe, even from himself, but he and Pain find themselves drawn to her.
We are finally getting some sense of everyone's motivations, goals, drives, and weaknesses. Plot holes were a problem in the previous novels and they are finally starting to be filled.
For once both hero and heroine are simultaneously likable. Their chemistry is decent. More importantly, it works within the fabric of the larger story.
I still feel, at times, like the cast of characters is a bit crowded. There are a lot of warriors to keep track of, and it seems more are being added all the time. It's a bit confusing, and a bit distracting.
I would still like to see more romance, not in a sexual sense but in a relationship sense.

The Lords of the Underworld were once warriors for the Greek Gods. When the warrior, Pandora was entrusted to guard the infamous box, the warriors were angry and jealous that one of them was not given the opportunity to guard it. They unleashed the demons in the box, and when the Gods finally gathered the demons together, they placed a demon in each warrior as punishment since the box disappeared.
Now the warriors are trying to find the box again, since not only a new order of Gods are looking for it, but also human hunters. If the box is found by one of the latter groups, it can kill the warriors since the demons are a part of them. With each book they keep finding pieces to the puzzle of the box, and of the relics that will supposedly help them find it.
Reyes is the keeper of Pain who has learned enough about his demon that he can inflict pain on himself to keep the demon at bay. Although with human contact, he has been known to spread the need, whereby the humans try to inflict pain on one another. He meets Danika in the first book of the series, and he has become infatuated with her. She harbors a secret ability that can help the warriors find another relic. She hates the warriors since one of them tried to kill her and her family.
Another great story that has a high degree of action and romantic tension that not only furthers the overall plot of the box and relics, but is also a great love story between the two main characters. I recommend this book and the series as a whole! Can't wait for the next book that comes out in 2009.

This is book three in the Lords of the Underworld series. I would recommend reading the first two books first.
In The Darkest Pleasure we finally get to the romance of Reyes and Danika, which is hinted at in the first two books. It's worth the wait. Reyes is the Lord forced to house the demon Pain. Danika is one of the humans the Lords have been ordered to kill. They should hate each other, but from the moment they meet they are drawn to each other. In addition to the hot romance, we get a lot of questions answered in this book.
I love the complex characters

this book is book 3 in the Lords of the Underworlds series and having read the first two and loved them I couldnt wait to start on this one..I was a bit disappointed as it really took me awhile to get into it. To me this one was alot slower of a read and I really fought to keep picking up the book. Im glad I finished and hoping that the next in the series picks up.

Reyes and Danika continue the story. Gena Showalter is great about including all the characters from the beginning, plus the additions along the way - they each have purpose and a place in the story.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! love this series! too hot to handle!
I really enjoy this series and this book was no different!
What is not to love about book 3 in this series.
Reyes is fantastic. Then again I did fall for him in the 1st book. For a warrior who's demon is Pain he is rather sweet. He needs pain to survive. Yet he sweet, kind, caring, gentle, and loving to Danika. Besides he is so very YUMMY.
As for Danika I think she is his perfect companion. She is strong, independent, fierce, and loyal. She is strong enough to give Reyes what he needs but at the sametime remain who she is.
Could there have been a little more steam, probably. But my favorite parts were reading about the nice little sweet things he did for Danika before she came back to the fortess...The clothes and art supplies. That was really sweet.
This book had it all action, drama, steam, and emotion. I loved everyt second of it.

Gena Showalter never ceases to enthrall me. I LOVE her Lords of the Underworld series and this is no exception!! We FINALLY get to read Reyes and Danika's story after a TWO BOOK lead-in. WONDERFUL! It was most definately worth the agonizing wait. A MUST read for romance readers.
This is a great paranormal romance. It isn't all sappy love scenes, but actually has action too.

Ever since the first book I count wait to read Danika & Reyes story. We saw his protectiveness then now he will go to any lengths to keep her safe even from himself as well as his fellow warriors and hunters until they find out she is the second artifact to find the box. Danika is the All Seeing Eye and not she is a very popular target for not just the hunters but from Gods, Demons and the warriors old friend Galen keep of the demon Hope which is the big man behind the Hunters. Reyes has to deal with more now then ever, but mostly keeping his Pain away from tainting Danika whenever he takes her to bed. Also there is something else about Danika is that makes her even more a target then just being the 'Eye'. We catch up with Paris, he is a world of pain and his heart is not into what he used to love doing, he just hurts for the one woman that dies in his arms and will do anything to bring her back to him. Sabin we find out more about him and his last lover he had and the hate between Sabin and the Hunter Stafano. Not to mention who they found out the man behind the Hunters operation.

This is a good series and worth reading but not GREAT. The 1st in the series was the best so far. 2nd was the worst. This one was better than the 2nd. The story lines are unique and interest catching but I just feel like I'm left wanting more when the book is done. Almost like the ending always falls flat or something. But all in all they are still good books.

Great series. Looking forward to next one.
Summary: Reyes is a man possessed. Bound by the demon of pain, he is forbidden to know pleasure. Yet he craves a mortal woman, Danika Ford, more than breath and will do anything to claim herâeven defy the gods. Danika is on the run. For months she's eluded the Lords of the Underworld, immortal warriors who won't rest until she and her family have been destroyed. But her dreams are haunted by Reyes, the warrior whose searing touch she can't forget. Yet a future together could mean death to all they both hold dear.
Wow, I just finished this and I am still in awe of how this book ended, it was amazing. The beginning was mind numbingly slow...unfortunately, and a ton of catch-up. The middle picked up a bit, built up some steam, well a ton of steam really, I love these two characters together. The ending, was amazing, I didn't see it coming at all...and it was expertly written. Most of the sad plot points were cleared up, except the one belonging to Paris, I am glad he chose his friend over his enemy women. I am also curious to see what will happen with Aeron and his little demon...and the fact that its a girl, is even crazier. Overall, after you get through the first few chapters, it gets pretty good. I like Reyes, but he does wallow a lot...and that got a bit boring. We also have a new enemy...we will have to see where that goes.

I liked this story better than the last one, it wasn't as good as I hoped. It was just so slow moving; it needed more action. I liked the relationship between Reyes and Danika, though there were some "eww" moments at time. I felt so bad for Paris and wonder what's going to happen with him. The mythology is very good in this series and is the main reason I am going to continue reading it.
