WOW!!! This was a page turner to the end. Retired Profiler McCaleb is called upon to help with a case. Unfortunately, his profile leads to an old crony, Det Bosch, who is currently testifying in a big, Hollywood murder case. The twists and turns this book takes had me up all night--even after I peeked to see 'whodunit'. One of Connelly's best, in my opinion!!!

I didn't even realize this book was part of a series until I was a little way into it. As a stand alone book it was very good and kept me guessing until the end. A great read!

I recommend reading both Bloodwork and The Last Coyote before reading A Darkness More Than Night; Not so much for plot lines but for an introduction to Terry McCaleb and Harry Bosch.
For those reading the Connelly series, this is a neat read as you get to see Bosch and McCaleb collide.
As a standalone book, it's a good plot with a few twists and a bit of action. But you miss what makes this book fun if you haven't gotten to know the characters previously.

You can't miss with Michael Connely. His books are always tightly written, nicely plotted, with good characters. I am easily annoyed by mediocre writing, so when I can't take another mediocre book, I know I can depend on a Connelly novel.

Happily married (to the woman whose sister provided his new heart--see Bloodwork) former FBI profiler Terry McCaleb is brought into a case 'just to have a look' by his old friend Jaye Winston of the Sheriff's office. Of course he can't (in spite of Graciela's protests)just stop there...especially when he determines the prime suspect is another old friend, Harry Bosch! All this and that annoying (but loveable) Buddy Lockridge. Fun read.
I love Harry Bosch books - they are so well written. This one was very interesting as it was told from two different protagonist's points of view that converged near the end of the book. Nice job!
Another great Michael Connelly story.

Great Harry Bosch story even though the central character at the beginning is Terry McCabe, a former FBI profiler. McCabe has retired but is asked by L.A. County Sheriff's department to look a murder that all the signs of a serial killer. It looks to McCabe that the profile points to Harry!

I was disappointed in this entry in the Harry Bosch series. Harry's character seemed underwritten and I didn't particularly care for Terry's character. Will not detract me from moving on to the next in the series.

Another Harry Bosch story, always full of suspense and good.
Harry Bosch and Terry McCaleb combine in one great read. Loved it.
I thought the book was very good. I like Michael Connelly's book's. It was action all the way through and it kept my interest through out the book.
I really love Harry Bosch and thought this provided a lot of insyte into the character, Terry Macaled, the character from Blood Work, joins forces with Harry, but suddenly Harry becomes the suspect in a grisly murder and it's up to Tarry to either prove he did it or prove he didn't.

This book is a "3-for" title, meaning that Michael Connelly calls in three of his four protagonists to participate in this story: LAPD Detective Harry Bosch, ex-FBI profiler Terry McCaleb, and reporter Jack McEvoy. Frankly, I've started this story more than once and couldn't get into it. Perhaps it is because is 80 pages before Bosch arrives on the scene.
The plot seems rather common: A movie director is in court, fighting the murder charge of killing a Hollywood starlet. Harry Bosch is the star witness in the trial because he was the arresting officer in the case. However, it doesn't take long for the simple plot to evolve into a psychological thriller.
Terry McCaleb, a retired FBI profiler, is asked by a former colleague to look over the murder book because they are stranded. They ask because Terry excels at finding clues in cases that don't seem to have any clues. Terry delves into the ritualistic killing and finds clues that are unsettling. They bring him to Harry Bosch and Terry has to grapple with his belief that Harry is an honest cop vs. the clues that seem to tie Harry with the murder.
The difficulty I had with this book is when Harry verbally attacks Terry, forcing him to look again at the assumptions he's already shared with the FBI. This is a much more complex case than the reader thought while entering the story. However, in the end, the author pulls off a masterful plot device that is very satisfying.

I loved this book! Terry McCaleb returns to profile a murderer in a plot that twists and turns with such speed and grace you can't put it down! Wonderful characters and smart dialogue make Connelly one of my favorite authors. A great read!

I have enjoyed all of the Harry Bosch novels and it was a little disconcerting to me that he was seriously being investigated for a murder by a criminal profiler, Terry McCaleb. This book was seen through the eyes of McCaleb, who had worked with Harry years earlier and even though he did not want to believe that Harry was guilty, all of the evidence pointed straight to him.

Harry Bosch gets together with Terry McCaleb of Blood Work to solve a crime that threatens both their lives. Jack McEvoy from The Poet plays an integral role. A superb job of bringing together Connelly's intricately woven LA universe.

Excellent book! Bosch is profiled as the bad guy and eventually hires McCaleb, the profiler, to find out what he "missed" during his examination of the case. Lots of surprising twists and intrigue in this one.

This book was not your typical Harry Bosch novel as Terry McCaleb was the retired FBI agent and Harry Bosch was the main suspect. It was a little slow to take off but once it did, it was a page-turner to the very end. Connelly is very good at developing characters, both good and bad, that are very intriguing and ones you'll feel are very real. I need to go back and read Blood Work as that's the book that introduces Terry McCaleb, a character which I like very much. This plot was very enjoyable and not too complicated. A pretty easy, straight forward read which I'm sure you'll enjoy if you're a Harry Bosch fan.

Attn Harry Bosch fans -- you should love A Darkness More Than Light. I love Michael Connelly but I'm not a fan of the Bosch novels, so I haven't actually read this (I did read The Concrete Blonde, and that's when I decided I wasn't big on Bosch}. If Bosch is your boyo, tho, then order this novel!
