A riotous romp of a romantic murder mystery. A great candidate for a summer read.

Dating Dead Men is a mixture of chicklit and a cozy. The chicklit parts were better than the mystery parts, IMHO. The pacing was uneven - there were sections during which I was bored and my mind kept wandering, but some of the scenes were LOL funny. I did not find the love interest very appealing, which was a major drawback for me. I did like this book enough to give the next one a chance.

Greeting card artist Wollie Shelley stumbles over a body on the way to the state run mental hospital where her brother lives. Fearing her brother may be involved in the murder, Wollie fails to call authorities. Soon she is taken hostage by a man posing as a doctor, being followed by men in a Hummer, and trying to avoid being killed.

This is the debut novel by Harley Jane Kozak. I thought her writing was reminiscent of Janet Evanovich. Very funny. But sometimes during the story, I was a bit confused by the plot and the many dates that Wollie went on.

This was a great first mystery! We meet heroine of the series Wollie Shelley, greeting card designer and owner of a greeting card shop in Beverly Hills. Wollie is also involved in a project doing research for a book called "How to Avoid Being Dumped All the TIme" where she is going on 40 blind dates in 60 days.

This story revolves around Wollie discovering a body in the road late at night near the mental hospital where her brother is a patient. And then Wollie is kidnapped and begins to fall in love with her kidnapper.

This was a fresh story with amusing characters. This book also won an Agatha Award for "Best First Mystery Novel" in 2004.
