Dating Dead Men is a mixture of chicklit and a cozy. The chicklit parts were better than the mystery parts, IMHO. The pacing was uneven - there were sections during which I was bored and my mind kept wandering, but some of the scenes were LOL funny. I did not find the love interest very appealing, which was a major drawback for me. I did like this book enough to give the next one a chance.

A riotous romp of a romantic murder mystery. A great candidate for a summer read.

Fun book! Ferret lovers will adore this book. Wollie, a greeting card designer is dating 40 men in 60 days as research for a radio-hosts upcoming book. On the way to visit her paranoid schizophrenic brother living at Rio Pescado, she stumbles across a dead body and is momentarily taken hostage by a charismatic "doctor" who becomes tangled up in her life....

I loved it! Sort of Stephanie Plum-like in tone. Lots of fun characters.

Author's first book and it's great! The protagonist is an unlikely, begrudging one who gets tangled up in murder, kidnapping, thefts, etc. purely by accident. The author has a gift for making you laugh and cry at the same time and I like Wollie a lot. I hope to see another book of her escapades. Her friends are colorful and as different as night and day. Her relatives are a bit strange but it all works for entertaining us cozy murder fans.

This was a fun read. You can ignore the almost formulaicnature of this zany murder-mystery/love story format because the lead character is so appealing.

The writing and plot are quirky and fun, and I would have given it a higher rating, but it had too much suspense for me. Good characters, though.

Funny story with original characters.
I loved this book. It was very funny, very lively and well written.

This was a great first mystery! We meet heroine of the series Wollie Shelley, greeting card designer and owner of a greeting card shop in Beverly Hills. Wollie is also involved in a project doing research for a book called "How to Avoid Being Dumped All the TIme" where she is going on 40 blind dates in 60 days.
This story revolves around Wollie discovering a body in the road late at night near the mental hospital where her brother is a patient. And then Wollie is kidnapped and begins to fall in love with her kidnapper.
This was a fresh story with amusing characters. This book also won an Agatha Award for "Best First Mystery Novel" in 2004.

Very fun, enjoyable book.
Greeting card artist Wollie Shelley stumbles over a body on the way to the state run mental hospital where her brother lives. Fearing her brother may be involved in the murder, Wollie fails to call authorities. Soon she is taken hostage by a man posing as a doctor, being followed by men in a Hummer, and trying to avoid being killed.
This is the debut novel by Harley Jane Kozak. I thought her writing was reminiscent of Janet Evanovich. Very funny. But sometimes during the story, I was a bit confused by the plot and the many dates that Wollie went on.

Los Angeles greeting-card artist Wollie Shelley is dating forty men in sixty days as research for a radio talk show host's upcoming book, How to Avoid Getting Dumped All the Time. Wollie is meeting plenty of eligible bachelors but not falling in love, not until she stumbles over a dead body en route to Rio Pescado -- a state-run mental hospital -- and is momentarily taken hostage by a charismatic "doctor" who is on the run from the Mob. Wollie fears that her beloved brother, a paranoid schizophrenic living at Rio Pescado, is involved in the murder, so rather than go to the authorities, she decides to solve the crime on her own. As she meets up with an array of small-time crooks and swaggering mobsters only slightly more sinister than the men she's been dating, Wollie realizes that "getting dumped" is the least of her problems. Finding true love, she discovers, sometimes means learning how to avoid getting killed ...
