Dave Barry is brilliantly funny, but only if you read these columns spaced over time. To read his humor columns back to back is deprive them of their quirks and twists - very quickly, you identify the "formula" he uses to construct his columns and then the glee goes out of them.

There is a column on his mother near the middle of the book, however, that is not to be missed.
