This short novel is compelling and haunting. The story of an 18 year old Jewish boy who survived the concentration camps and is now an executioner and terrorist and surprisingly human and empathetic. I challenge you to put the book down!
Helpful Score: 1
Set in the fight against England for freedom of the Jews in the Palestine, this is a portrait of a freedom fighter who is assigned to kill a hostage in retribution for the hanging of another fighter. As disturbing as his holocaust novellas.

A brief read. Did not like it as well as Night but could easily have been written today.
Dawn is an unforgettable journey into the human heart-and an eloquent statement about the moral basis of the new Isreal.
Very enlightening story about traditional Jewish morality confronted with the modern world of power politics and murder. Written from a strong ethical viewpoint. Author was a teenager taken from his home to Auschwitz concentration camp and later, Buchenwald.
Dawn tells the story of Elisha, a Holocaust survivor, who is recruited to a terrorist group in Palestine that is trying to drive out the British in the years after World War II. Elisha is assigned to execute a prisoner in retaliation for the execution of one of his comrades. As he waits through the night for his task at dawn, Elisha struggles with his ghosts.
Pretty unforgettable!
Sort of like a fairy tale depicting what must have been Wiesel's thought process after leaving Buchenwald. What pain he must carry!
Not as good as Night, but not bad.
A dark but enlightening view of terrorism from the inside. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.
One word...riveting!
Sad story - deals with a terrorist conflict about killing innocent people - very easy reading but sad. Read in one sitting
I have fallen in love with Elie Wiesel's books. Even though I have only read two. Night is one of my all time favorite..this one comes in around the top 50! It amazes me how he can go through traumatic events and write about them with such demeanor. This book takes place in one night and ends at "dawn" which is the pivot point in the novel. I was so stunned at the ending for the simple fact that I thought that it would not end the way that it did. It is really an eye opener to see what the Holocaust and the after effects were like. I think everyone should at least read one Elie Wiesel's novel..they are in my opinion a novel that makes you think!
