We are introduced to Viola Price and her family chapter by chapter. Her four grown children and their absent dad who has found a new family to look after. Each chapter is written in a different voice so we see the story from many angles.
Viola is lovingly human and knows how to get right to the heart of the matter when it comes to her kids and their mistakes, after all she muses, it's a mothers business. The families involved are torn apart by cheating spouses, sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy, and drug and alcohol addiction, just to name a few of the hurdles placed along your way through the story.

Another wonderful and emotion story by Terry. I love her writing and wish there were more to read as I am on the last one that I know of that she ahs written.
Very well written and it is absolutely on of the funniest African-American story.
A heartwarming and, eventually, uplifting story of one Black woman's family and her wise counsel. I enjoyed this book immensely.
Unabridged. 10 cassettes. Aprox. 15.5 hours playing time.
If you like Terry McMillan, you'll love this book. It is funny and poignant and the characters feel like real people you's meet everyday.
Very good read has a range of personal experience for the reader.
A great read about a family in struggle within itself. It touches on race, politics and family dynamics. A great read cover to cover.
Terry McMillan's characters are wonderful - vibrant, deep and real. A great story about family.
Terry McMillian does a first class job of capturing the complex and dynamic tension of family relationships in A Day Late and a Dollar Short. The characters are powerful and real, and the theme of family dissension masking a hard-fought love is universal. McMillian is both a superb storyteller and a woman possessed of a clear musical magic with words.
This book is touching and funny.
I think this book takes you through every emotion possible. One minute I found myself with a belly ache from laughing so hard, and dripping buckets of tears the next. The characters in this book seem as if they could be your neighbors and the journeys they embark upon are profound and redeeming.
Again, Mcmillan writes about humorous characters; even sometimes going through different emotions, such as the sadness in the character's lives. Great Read!
McMillan is a fun author. I truly enjoyed learning about black women and their relationships. I've read several of her books.
This is the authors best book yet, full of love and redemption and the quirks that make us all human
This is hysterically funny, and had me laughing so much that I could not put it down. Sentimental, as well so quite a mixture.
Like a real-life soap opera - delightful, funny, sad, real.
I loved this book. Terry McMillan is so great at capturing women's emotions. Excellent!

Good read about family problems and love.
A great family saga, thought provoking but also funny. This novel surprises the reader, but also enlightens as well.
Fascinating look into the life of a family - a family that could be just about anyone's. Made me think twice about my own family dynamic. Enjoyed the book. Good reading.
"WITHOUT QUESTION THIS IS McMILLIAN'S BEST. A GLORIOUS NOVEL...A moving tapestry of familial love and redemption, A Day Late and a Dollar Short transported me into Terry McMillian's fictional world and, like the best fiction, helped illuminate the corners of my own heart. [It] dared me not to laugh, cry, and shout upon recognizing this glittering, complicated portrayal of Africasn-American life"-

This is a great book. It really draws you in and makes you want to keep reading until you finish.
SINCE I COME FROM A LARGE DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY, THIS BOOK OFFERED A LOT OF INSIGHTS. DOESN'T MATTER THAT THEY'RE A BLACK FAMILY. THEY ARE A FAMILY - PERIOD. I ACTUALLY WAS SURPRISED THAT I LIKED THIS BOOK. TERRY MC MILLAN HAS A WAY WITH WORDS TO EXPLAIN EMOTIONS.
