To me, this was not a typical cozy mystery. There was more sex, kinkiness and bad language than the norm. That being said, I still enjoyed it. The main character was likeable and down to earth. I'm not sure I'll stay with the series but I will definitely read the next one to see if it pulls me in a bit more.

#1 in the Murder by Month Mystery Series

I was hooked by page 2 and read it in a day! I loved it!! It was very fast paced and a fun read! I have the 3rd in the series and don't want to read it till I read the 2nd one. It has been on my wish list a very long time! I may just have to end up buying it :(

I loved this book. During the Summers I live around the samll town where the story takes place. The book made me laugh out loud, infact every time I go through or stop in the town, I laugh just thinking of the book. Some of the book is fictional but some is true. It's fun to try and figure out which parts are and are not true. I'm one of those that got stopped by the police at the bottom of the hill at the edge of town. It's a really cute town and the author did a great job creating her story.

I wasn't really in the mood to read when I started, but by chapter 2 I was hooked! I became fully engrossed in Mira's life quickly because the author fully describes activities and places. I want to visit Battle Creek now. The mystery has enough twists and turns and red herring that I kept changing my mind about "who dun it".
June Bug just arrived at the library today (2/28), so I'll be reviewing that book soon.

This was a cute book. It reminds me a little of Janet Evanovich books because there are some very crazy characters in it. Also, it is a little racy - racier than most cozy mysteries. So if you are easily offended, this book isn't for you. I will read the next one because I think there is potential to make me laugh!

This mystery was all over the place. The story was in desperate need of a cohesive thread to give it some flow. I kept with it to the end, but found myself bored all the way. I won't read the rest of the series.

I thought this was pretty weak book. Did not like the main character at all, just a another ditzy lead in a cozy mystery. Most interesting character was the corpse. With that said I loved the location, Minn, and its detail. Most likely will not read anymore in this series.

This is an interesting book. It starts out somewhat slow, but is such a short book that it picks up quickly. There are some laugh out loud parts, I certainly would not consider it a "cozy" as I have seen it described, but at the same time I am not really all that interested in reading more int he series. The characters to me were not that gripping,. the small town not that outstanding and just overall lacked the interest level to continue the series.

It was a little slow to start, but after a few chapters, I really enjoyed it. This is definitely NOT a predictable story at all ! ! ! A little weird in places, but definitely not boring! I will read the next.

Minneapolitan Mira James has been taking it easy since college graduation - too easy. Due to a dead-end job and a cheating boyfriend, the Twin Cities have lost their charm, and Mira decides to begin a new life in rural Battle Lake. Right away she is offered jobs as an assistant librarian and part-time reporter, and falls into an unexpected romance with a guy who seems to be the perfect man - until he turns up dead between the reference stacks her tenth day on the job.

Anxious to learn more about the man who had briefly stolen her heart, Mira delves into the hidden mysteries of Battle Lake, including a old land deed with ancient Ojibwe secrets, an obscure octogenarian crowd with freaky social lives, and a handful of thirtysomething high school buddies who hold bitter, decades-old grudges. Mira soon discovers that unknown dangers are concealed under the polite exterior of this quirky small town, and revenge is a tator-tot hotdish best served cold.

A hip, humorous, and gripping account of small-town murder, this novel is the first in a series of cozies featuring Mira James, an urban woman with rural Minnesota roots.
