Fast mystery that's not one of today's formulaic books. This is a period book, set in 1959 right around when Buddy Holly dies, with a setting that crinkles right off the page (in a most excellent way) and with characters who are real, if maybe a bit broadly drawn.

Overall, a great read.

Ed Gorman has written a ton of books, always a good sign, this was just not quite my cup of tea...

Feb. 4, 1959 - the day Buddy Holly, musical idol of Sam McCain, P.I. & lawyer, was killed in a plane crash. Also the day an apparent murder-suicide occurs in the Iowa town in which Sam lives. Sam investigates the questions surrounding the local bad news. An enjoyable "trip" back in time to the 1950s.
