There are different versions of this story.
This version is from the Polices' perspective.
The movie "Monster" is based on this story. This is Aileen Wuornos, Christopher Berry-Dee version of the story. Great movie, must see.
As usual the book has more gruesome detail.

Aileen Wuornos........she was the classic example of personality disorder. She truly hated men and blamed all her problems on them. It actually started with the men in her family unit, which is what molded her to become what she was. Would she have turned out different if raised in a typical, mother/father family? Possibly.....but then there are killers who were raised in the "typical family" (if there is such a thing) and still killed.
Good read on the insight of the police investigation and trial. I wish I had heard more about the woman who adopted her though after she was jailed and what became of that relationship. The book only alludes that it ended badly but nothing in detail is written about it.
