This is one of the strangest books I've ever read. For the better part of the book, I had no idea what was going on. I would ordinarily have given up on any book under similar circumstances, but this book held on and wouldn't let go, I couldn't read the last 75 pages fast enough. I really enjoyed the many twists and turns, the characters and setting. I'm definitely looking for Sophie Hannah's backlist of books. Highly recommend.

This is a truly odd book: not so much a "whodunit" as a "who did what, if anything?" book. Very well written, it manages to be impossible to put down until you've followed all the red herrings and wrong turns to understand what's happened to whom, when and why.

Ruth is living her life one day at a time after suffering at the hands of another. As she starts to gain confidence and build her new life, her boyfriend confides in her about a murder he committed. But that is impossible when the person he claims to murder is alive.

This is probably one of my favorites from Sophie Hannah. It kept me guessing till the end. There were so many twists, you did not know till the end.

This book is the fourth in the Culver Valley Crime series.

This is the same book as "The Other Half Lives". Strange, often hard to get into at first but I really love her books!

The plotting was awful.

Spoiler alert
One of the things it turns on is someone who had been traumatized and abused (her parents were Christians, she was drugged/kidnapped, and later assaulted--all three of these were equally traumatic in the book) going to the person who assaulted her for help and opening her soul only to that person.

Beside all that there is hardly a mystery. The victim isn't even dead, but someone else was shot.

Overall both the plot and characters were beyond my ability to suspend disbelief.
