This is the fourth book in the Joanna Brady series. It's not the best book in the series, but it's a good one.
One of the things I like about the Sheriff Brady books is that we are dealing with ordinary people in unusual but believable situations. It's not the like glitzy best-seller thrillers that are so popular, where all the characters are powerful, wealthy people dealing with extraordinarily amazing situations. Instead, we deal with the daily life of a hard-working, interesting lady sheriff in a small town but a big, lightly populated county. Murders happen, and she finds out how and why.
And the stories are interesting, even without anyone being a senator or movie star.
I highly recommend this series, and I think you'll enjoy this book. (Unless, of course, you are one of those folks that require senators and movie stars in your books....)

A novel of suspense. Unusual twists and turns to keep you reading.

Joanna Brady mystery, 3rd in the series. The murder of a local veterinarian seems an open-and-shut case, but the man accused of the revenge-inspired killing doesn't seem to fit the bill.

Worth the read!
Worth the read!
ANOTHER LIGHT MYSTERY WITH SHERIFF JOHANNA BRADY. IT'S PRETTY AMAZING THAT MANY PEOPLE DIE IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD IN SUCH A SMALL TOWN! BUT A NICE LITTLE READ.
Dead to Rights follows the career and personal life of Sheriff Joanna Brady, picking up where Shoot/Don't Shoot left off. It's an engaging story that will have you up all night to finish it and find out who the killer is.
Not quite as good as other Jance books, but a good read.
Am enjoying all the Joanna Brady books
Excellent book to read, a lot of twists and turns with a great ending.
Excellent read! I love the Joanna Brady mystery series by Jance.
This is, as usual, another really good book by Jance.
I am hooked on J.A. Jance. This is an easy read. Follows the saga of Johanna Brady.
From back of book:
Joanna Brady--devoted mother and the first female Sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona--knows what it's like to lose one you love, and her heart still aches over the murder of her policeman husband. But her sympathy for a tragically widowed ex-cop has placed Joanna's future in jeopardy--and brought her face-to-face with death in the high, lonely desert.
On their nineteeth wedding anniversary, Hal Morgan's wife was fatally struck down by a drunk driver -- and the courts punished her killer with only a wrist-slap. A year to the day later the irresponsible motorist is murdered and all fingers are pointing to Morgan as the perpetrator--except Sheriff Brady's. But Joanna's gut instinct is leading her into a maelstrom of danger and deception, as she trails the truth from a ghostly mining camp to the rocky spires of the Ciiicahua National Monument. Because now an assassin is turning his sights on her.

Had me hanging on till the very, very last page! Super!
From Publishers Weekly: "Cochise County, Ariz., sheriff Joanna Brady has her newly elected hands full in this fourth adventure. When veterinarian Amos Buckwalter is murdered by arson, deputies immediately suspect Hal Morgan, whose wife, Bonnie, was recently killed by a drunken Buckwalter in a car accident. Morgan, himself an ex-cop, had been picketing Buckwalter's animal hospital, handing out Mothers Against Drunk Driving literature just before the vet's body was found in a burning barn. Joanna doubts his guilt because she understands his grief, her own husband having been murdered not so long ago. Besides, the widow Buckwalter is strangely stoic, even getting a makeover and playing golf on the day after her husband's death. While Joanna locks horns with experienced detectives on the case, she must cope with her rebellious nine-year-old daughter, Jenny, a bossy mother, budget-cutting county supervisors and her aching loneliness. The unlikely sheriff (her husband had run for the office, and she entered the campaign only after his death) is an engaging heroine, vulnerable but determined to meet the challenges in her personal and public life. Jance skillfully ties the mystery to the southeastern Arizona landscape, its historic mining towns and their modern problems." Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.
I enjoyed this book very much and can not wait to read more a Joanna Brady's next mystery case.
