Police Chief Kate Burkholder and the Painters Mill police department have their hands full when three brutal murders occur within a short period of time. Wooden Amish dolls are found left by the serial killer with each victim, indicating a connection to the unsolved murder of an Amish family that took place over 30 years ago.

While Kate works to find the killer before more lives are lost, she must also deal with a cranky town council member who is being threatened, and her fragile relationship with John Tomasetti is threatened by an enemy from his past.

Like all of the entries in this series, The Dead Will Tell is a page-turner. I read it in one day. Kate is a tough but deeply compassionate protagonist. The only negative to this book is that the whodunnit was not a surprise, I figured it out well before the conclusion. Thus as a mystery it is somewhat disappointing, but the pacing makes it an excellent thriller.

I look forward to every new book in this series; Linda Castillo has become one of my regular pre-orders. The folks in Painters Mill better get busy making babies though, as the population declines considerably in this 6th entry of the Kate Burkholder series.

I Love this series! Chief of Police Kate is such an interesting woman and I love her relationship with hunky Tomasetti.

This is the best of all her books; it kept me reading through the night, lots of twists and turns and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I had a hard time not checking out the end as I was reading about the "ghost killer" and I must say I didn't see it coming.

5 stars all the way

Another great read from Linda Castillo! This one really surprised me -- lots of twists and unexpected turns. I have two complaints, though. One is that there are always recaps of a similar nature in each book...I guess to make it a standalone or something. We get little blurbs explaining a bit of backstory and it seems like they're verbatim from previous books. The repetition is annoying. Secondly, there was an unsolved investigation from book 5 (or maybe 4?) that didn't get addressed here at all, and I wonder why. Maybe it will be referenced in the next one. Love this series, and will start book 7 tonight!

This was a great book. The plot was good and flowed well. The main character Kate Burkholder is a great strong woman, but also soft when needed.

I love reading the Kate Burkholder Series. This one was not disappointing at all. It is just as good as all the others that I have read. Linda Castillo is an excellent author.

Police Chief Kate Burkholder is called to Dale Michaels' farm for what looks like a suicide. But evidence soon points to murder. A small Amish Peg Doll was lodged in the victim's throat. On the doll is scratched the name "Hochstetler". While Kate and her deputies investigate the murder, they find a link to a cold case that happened thirty five years ago. An Amish man and four children died in a fire. His wife was never heard from again. Meanwhile, the murderer strikes again, and Kate must race to stop a killer.

This is another excellent mystery in the Kate Burkholder series. As she hunts down the killer, Kate and John Tomasetti must deal with ghosts from his past. There is a lot of tension between the two of them throughout the book that adds to the atmosphere. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

It took a long time for me to "get into" this book. I just left it sitting. It didn't grab me. But once I gave it the time it was a fast paced thriller which I did guess the ending of but it was worth the read.
