I absolutely love this series. What a great author! Mariah Stewart is one of my favorite authors. She comes up with the greatest plots, characters and settings. Her books always keep you interested from beginning to end and there is always several twist and turns throughout each book. If you love a good mystery you will love this book and series.

Loved this series! Fast moving.
Archer Lowell, Curtis Alan Channing, and Vince Giordano share a jail holding cell waiting for the law to process them when all hell breaks loose as someone escapes custody. To pass time while the complex is totally shut down, the trio discusses why they are here when the conversation turns to who would they like to kill. They agree that to be successful they would have to exchange victims like the Hitchcock and DeVito movies did.
Not long afterward a serial killer appears murdering three females with the same name M. Douglas as listed in order in the phone book. Next on the list is court appointed children?s advocate Mara Douglas. Her sister FBI profiler Dr. Anne McCall calls in a favor owed her by FBI agent Aidan Shields. She wants Aidan to protect her sibling. However, Aidan wants to refuse as he wants to go into guilty seclusion following the death of his brother on his last assignment. Still for Anna he will do what he cam to keep Mara safe. Moving in with her in her Philadelphia area home, Aidan and Mara fall in love, but he fears if something happens to her he will die too.
The first of Mariah Stewart?s ?Dead? books is a stupendous serial killer romance starring two wonderful lead characters. The twist of who performs the killing is provided in plain sight yet the audience will wonder whether Strangers on the Train really occurred. Fans of tense thrillers that never let up until the climax will know that this novel is dead on in exciting action and a breathtaking romance.

Quick read with romance and suspense. Good beach book.
very good read. I could not put it down.
Trio of prisoners make a pact to kill each other's most hated people.
It is linked to the books Dead Certain and Dead Even by the same author. I enjoyed all three books.

I really enjoyed reading this book by Mariah Stewart. I'm planning to read others in the series.
This is the first of Stewart's DEAD series. The other books in the series are Dead Certain and Dead Even. She is an interesting thriller writer writing quick page-turners.
Enjoyed the book very much
Very good!! I'll be looking for more of this author's books
The is a great book with a lot of suspense. The first in Mariah Stewart's Dead Trilogy. It doesn't have a whole lot of romance though. No love at first sight and I don't even recall the word Love being used. You knew almost from the start who the bad guy was but this does not take the suspense away from the book because it was part of the plot not because the author has no clue how to maintain the mystery. I will definitely read the next in the series.
Wonderful book...can't wait to read the rest in the series!
First time I've ever read this author. It's very good. It was extremely hard to put down.
My firt Mariah Stewart read - I'd definitely read her again.
good Mary Stewart murder mystery
GOOD BOOK. I'VE FOUND ANOTHER GREAT AUTHOR!!!
Channing is out of prison and carrying out his part of the deal to kill Giordano's enemies. But he kills the wrong Mary Douglas and must try again. Very good story and series
love all of her books
3 murder victims with the same name, and the star of the book is next on the list!
I liked this book. A killer is going down a page of the phone book, and FBI agent Aiden Shields is trying to stop the next murder from happening.
Another good book from Mariah Stewart, I enjoyed this story. Barb
It was inescapably chilling, as if the murderer was methodically working his way down a page torn from the phone book. The three victims brutally killed in their own homes had one thing in common: they were all listed as M. Douglas. The fact that Mara Douglas is next on the list has her jumping at shadows, until FBI agent Aidan Shields shows up to make sure she doesnt become the fourth victim.
Aidan has been out of commission since an undercover operation went bad more than a year ago. Back on the job, his razor-sharp instincts are returning. But it will take all of Aidans wits to stay one step ahead of the elusive killer who has engaged him in a deadly gamea game in which Maras life is the prize. A game only one can win . . .

Enough to make your phone unlisted!
Three prisoners, awaiting their turn to appear before a criminal court judge, are placed in the same holding cell. They begin a macabre fantasy discussion about revenge and a fool-proof, risk free plan for murder. What if? What if you could "snuff" three people when you get out of jail? Who would you choose to kill? Now one prisoner is free.
Three women have been consecutively, brutally raped and murdered in a suburban Philadelphia college town. All three had their names listed in the telephone directory as M. Douglas. As chilling as it is to contemplate, it appears that the killer is working his way down a phone book page and methodically selecting his victims in order of their listing. If this trend continues, Mara Douglas, a court-appointed children's advocate for the Department of Children and Youth Services, could be the next woman targeted for death.
Mara's sister, Annie, a psychiatrist and profiler for the FBI, convinces her dear friend and almost brother-in-law, Special Agent Aidan Shields, to accept an undercover job to protect her sister. He is on leave recovering from serious wounds inflicted months ago while on duty. It takes a lot of convincing, but finally Shields accepts.
Mara, an extremely independent woman who lives alone with her Jack Russell Terrier, Spike, is most unhappy with the idea of a live-in body guard, even one as handsome as Aidan. And even if he does cook while she is at work and walk her dog too.

Part of the Mariah Stewart's "Dead" Series, this book stars FBI Agent Aidan Shields who is tring to prevent the murder of Mara Douglas, the sister of FBI profiler, Anne Marie. Mara is bizarrely put on a "murder hit list" by three Cons in jail who exchange names of people they wish to have murdered.
Another good Mariah Stewart book.
