Bob The Nailer is getting a little long of tooth for charging into the fray; but never slow on intrigue. A new twist from Stephen Hunter and source for continued action when ole Bob decides to permanently sit in the rocking chair on the front porch. Forget the political/philosophical undercurrents that heavy thinking reviewers read into the book. Just go along for another enjoyable Stephen Hunter ride.
Another real page turner from Stephen Hunter. Dead Zero is the 7th book in the Bob Lee Swagger series and perhaps the most mature. Drama, suspense, action, character development with a couple of big surprises along the way - lots of good story in this one.
Stephen Hunter has brought the Bob Swagger novel series back to his original form thankfully.
The Bob Lee Swagger series is not at the top of my list, but I have read several of the novels. This one upholds the series tradition of well written, enjoyable stories. The plot moved fast enough to be interesting, although I was not on the edge of my seat. I certainly never got bored. Mr. Swagger remains an engaging and sympathetic hero. This one is well worth reading.
Enjoyed. Good plot. More surprising character development.
Mr. Hunter's best novel yet! Here we have an aging (aren't we all) Bob Lee Swagger and a great cast of characters replete with some very good guys and some very evil S.O.B.s set in current history involving the war in Afganistan as background and the USA as a stage. The story has most of the popular elements: romance, humor, intrigue, mindless violence, purposeful violence,
an intricate plot, and several characters that are LOL funny. It also has a most deserved suprise ending. All in all a very good read. Good job!

Another solid thriller from Hunter. This one introduces Ray Cruz, a USMC sniper serving in Afghanistan, who has been ordered to take out an Islam warlord, Ibrahim Zarzi, known as the "Beheader." But before he can do so, he and his spotter are attacked by a group of well-trained mercenaries and his mission goes uncompleted. In the mean time, the Beheader has supposedly changed alliances and is now working with the U.S. and is the front-runner to be the next Afghan president. But Cruz wants to complete his mission and sends a message that he intends to do so. Swagger is called in by the FBI as and adviser to try to counter Cruz's moves against Zarzi. As usual, all is not as it seems and it turns out that Cruz bears a strong resemblance to Earl Swagger, Bob's father. I think Cruz in another great character coming from Hunter -- a younger Bob Lee -- and the next Hunter novel focuses on Cruz - Soft Target. Looking forward to reading it!
