When Detective Lane Hanson asks Private Investigator Frankie Douglas to help him on a case, she is very hesitant to accept. Their one night of passion six months ago ended with Lane leaving before daylight and never calling her again. But Frankie's uncle, Sheriff Tim Brennan, also wants her to work on this case and she agrees. Two young women have been found murdered. Both had given birth within days of their deaths and both had dealt with the Forever Homes Adoption Agency. As Frankie and Lane go undercover as a couple wishing to adopt, they uncover a doctor with a history of baby-trafficking and murder.

This story started out so much stronger than the first book in the series. The suspense story was attention-grabbing from the very first page. The romance was appealing. I liked Lane and Frankie having to pose as husband and wife. There was a lot of sexual tension.

But about halfway through the book this story lost steam. We knew up front who the villains were so there was no guess work for us. They sometimes seemed cartoonish in the villainy. Lane and Frankie were constantly running around interviewing people and looking for clues. There was a huge TSTL moment in the last few chapters that totally threw me out of the story. I just had to shake my head at the heroine's stupidity. My rating: 3 Stars.
