Since I believe that Rachel Maddow is one of the smartest women on TV news, this title grabbed me instantly. Brynn had plenty of teen angst to wade through (romance, family, school), but she faced them with dry wit and candor. Confiding to the prominent newscaster through unsent online journal entries that began as a homework assignment was an entertaining diversion from issues that can easily overwhelm a plot as well as the reader. The school runoff for a representative seat on the school council mirrored vaguely our 2016 presidential campaign, which should have clued me in to its outcome. In the end, all worked out for Brynn, however, the family situation was a little heartbreaking even though that type of household is probably more common than not. Still, I got a huge kick out of the familiar references to Rachel and her show, which frequently had me laughing out loud. A good read.
